So with gas reaching the most rediculous prices since Hurricane Katrina, I happened to catch on the news this morning about the gas companies record profits in the the first quarter of this year.
PetroCanada posted $1.1 BILLION profit, an 86% increase in profits from this time last year. BP posted a 63% increase and I beleive Shell posted over 25%.
Barrels of oil were apparently being traded at over $120.
To see figures like this absolutely sickens me. To see an 86% increase in profits in 12 months is disgusting. There is absolutely no reason for it. The highest I have seen gas here recently was $1.26/L, and today I saw it as low as $1.18/L which is still insane. I wasn't complaining about a buck a litre,but this is getting rediculous. We're paying twice what we were 1 year ago. What has happened in that 12 months to make prices skyrocket like that?
This is stupid,because if this is how things are going to be,I'm not going to be able to afford a project vehicle for fun,and I'll be spending my week's wages on fuel just to get myself to work and back.
I think spending $600 on a new mountain bike last week was the smartest thing I've done lately.

gas here in the states is crazy as well... 3.58 a gal. and rising everyday.... friday is suppose to be "no buy gas day" but i dont' see how thats going to help the situation any... they will just jump the price up to make up for the loss

Buy oil company stock and/or buy a diesel and make biodiesel at under $1.00/gallon. Or make a car that runs off your tears cause you sure do cry a a lot.

Yeah that supposed "Gas Strike" on friday is stupid. It will accomplish nothing. To be effective we would have to strike or boycott for atleast a week. and even then all we will accomplish is gas going higher to make up for any loss. Gas is just one of those things we have to deal with.
OR, God forbid, trade the Mazda for a Hybrid.
