Hi guys, i'm new to this streetsourcemag thing, and i hate the hell out of some imports and minitrucks, but i wanna bag my chevelle cuz i think it would be badass, keep in mind i hate you and what you do but could you give me some info?
they're right man if you would word that a little better you wouldn't have the old guys on your ass (lol you have old guys on your ass) but my neighbor restores old 70's model ford and chevy trucks from the ground up and has no interest in doing things like i do. but he'd bring his retired ass over to my house all the time when i lived there and watch what i do and offer to help me out. Anybody thats hardcore into building a nice vehicle can appreciate the work we do to our rides. they might not agree with it but they respect it just like i respect the guy that spends 30 grand at Jegs and jc whitney and then puts an entire car together with his own hands.

You really shouldn't stereotype an entire group of people because of one a$$hole. I know LOTS of rodders that would break their back to help you do almost anything.

I got a similar response once trying to get a Fatman Mustang II setup for a customer's el camino. The guy at Fatman Fabrication started in on me for working on airbagged trucks. "You guys are a bunch of hacks", etc. It kind of pissed me off cause I've seen plenty of work that is very high quality at various truck shows. There are a lot of trucks that are definitely rough, but no more so than the rat rod or kustom kulture guys. some of those guys even like rust. i don't like imports at truck shows but i can appreciate the time and money that they put into their rides. too bad many of those rod guys can't get off their high horses from time to time and appreciate all vehicle enthusiasts.

It wasn't at the HAMB was it? Those guys have a reputation for being assholes.
And, flatheads aren't all that rare. The problem is the Europeans buying them in cases. If you look around long enough, you'll find one that isn't being hoarded over like gold. But, if you're looking for good bang for your buck, and a cool flathead, get a Ford or Willys 4 banger. The WWII and M38 Era engines aren't hard to come by. My boss had about 40-50 WWII blocks, heads, and cranks, and was turning down M38 era block because he had so many. I'd look into an M38 block, as they're cheaper, more abundant, and make more power. A guy I worked with will sell you a fully rebuilt one (with all new parts) with a lifetime warrantee for around $2500. They make around 100-110 horse at the flywheel on average. For $3200, he sells a performance package, with a ported block, larger stainless valves, shaved head, flat top pistons, a Weber 2 barrel, and MSD distributor, and a header. Those have seen over 135 on the dyno. That should be enough power to push a Mazda.

Evil1, just picked up a 1930 Durant, that had a flat head 4 banger in it that he's going to be getting rid of. I don't know what condition the motor is tho.
i noticed your truck the other day. i don't really like it, but could you tell me everything you did to it? i don't want to build a mazda, i want to build a yugo with the exact same mods just to see the look on your face when it's done. thanks.

hey man, you have a badass mazda bro. that thing must have taken forever to build. i wish i had that kind of talent. do you think you could give me a few pointers on suspension? i really want to do a setup similar to yours and need a little guidance. thanks a million bro, i really appreciate it.

I talk to alot of old rodders all the time. The shop I built and keep my truck in belongs to an older guy who builds hot rods. My pinstriping was done by an old rodder. I dont remember ever having any problems with them at all. True they dont really understand why we do the things we do to our trucks. I always tell them that they were the ones that started it. They call it chaneling, we call it body droping. ( Same concept ). They just have ways of doing things, and we have ours. Go to a rod show sometime. You may be supprised at how many ideas you can get, and also hom many rods now have air suspension. In fact a few of the older guys around here with rods have started asking me about air suspensions. In the end they are really the same as mini truckers. They just use different vehicles. They also have alot of things that we could learn from them. I say just be repspectful to them and you will get the same in return.
