I live in Baton Rouge and we were pretty lucky. I have friends and family in New Orleans and haven't been able to get in touch with them. Even here cell phones are barely working. Power just got restored about thirty minutes ago where I live. This is one b-day I won't forget.

I have pictures of what New Orleans looked like in March 2005 before the cat5 hurricane.

Look at Carl's trip to New Orleans.

what i don't understand is why people have to be stubborn hard asses and act all tough and think they can just wait it out. Everybody will believe you when you say your property got destroyed. No reason why anybody should risk your familie's, friend's and your own life just so you can have a story to tell your grand kids. It's not worth it. If something like this happens and your on the coast or anywhere in harms way get the hell out when you can and don't try to stand up to a storm like that. You see from the video's what it did and what they are capable of. You think the storm is going to go easy or go around you just because you stand up to it? no...its common knowledge. All of those deaths for nothing...

Matt, it's not about being a bunch of tough guys and trying to stand up to the storm. For most people, their homes and property are all that they have. I live in baton rouge and we just got the outskirts of katrina, but we still had alot of property damage. Even though we didn't get much, if we would have gotten more, you could bet that I was gonna sit right here in my house with all my sh**, and ride that bad b**ch out. I feel for all those people but I understand why they stayed.

my heart goes out to everybody on the gulf. Not just from Katrina, but for all thats happend in the past year. I know Mobile/Gulf Shores have been hit hard 3 times now in ONE year. But i've been watching all the vids and updates i could find on the New Orleans area and its terribly sad. now they are saying 1000's could be dead.

HOWEVER--- on the flip side...I watched one video on CNN or Foxnews.com that showed Looters running in and out of some kind of store as fast as they could with as much as they could grab, all the while and old elderly man with a walker just stood there sort of in shock i guess. I guess I just can't understand the idea of looting. I hope all those people can sleep well at night knowing how much shit they stole. I really do not have any pity for those folks. When it comes time for the sick and needy to recieve help--- but they can't get it anywhere locally b/c some bastards helped themselves..... eerrg it just pisses me off. I mean I know they are in need too, but in some videos there were TEENAGERS standing there throwin up signs and acting like gangsta rappers for the camera holding all the free shit they just stole. but whatever.... the situations only gonna get worse.mike

to object to the flipside..

say you're in bolixi, your house is now ruined, your cars are ruined, and you're naked and wet, you see a store with people stealing stuff, and you think, SNAP! clean clothes, some twinkies and some warm, but clean water...

no one around to sell you the shit you need, no money, and god only knows how far away relief workers are?

Why not steal some shit.

Unless of course it's a DVD player or something, then, they're looking because they're ignorant fucks...
