try cleaning some of your pollution control pieces...the ones that are acting up...get some new plugs and things like that. try some of that "nevr-fail" emissions additive shit maybe?
do the cheap stuff first and go from there man. i do agree its completely stupid...which i sometimes take for granted i suppose living in the north and what not. maybe its time for a big 4.3 with a big bad boy carb with no emissions, no cats, and a big exhaust. sorry. lol
worst case ontario why dont you find a buddy or something that has an exhaust shop, and write you a receipt for 450..although maybe the exhaust didn't cost exactly 450...but itd be believeable. problem solved and you've got a good exhaust for a time to come. throw your weber on and your smiling.
get your exhaust, be smilin, and in 09 give the ontario government a big "suck my left nut."
lol, see, this is why I wanted your truck so bad because it's an 86 and exempt down here.
I can't do the repair cost limit thing, because that means a conditional pass, and I can't get a conditional if I've never had a previous pass with this vehicle.
I'm going to to plugs,I already did wires and air filter....the carb needs to be adjusted because it idles high and runs a little rich, and I need to put a cat and muffler on it. Even with all that,I'm still not guaranteed a pass.
Maybe the local shop will let it slide again this time. When I took Kermit in after I bought it,it failed, and then the guy said he played with it a little and "got it to pass" and then said "but don't expect it to pass next time"...So what he did was run the first test, where it failed, and tested it again and it magically passed....so I paid for 2 e-tests,but got my pass. Maybe I'll have to see if I can swing that again.
This whole thing is throwing a stick into my spokes.
It is bad all over. Here in Chattanooga,u have to pass a test every time u get your tag renewed in other words every year.If u sell the vehicle, even if it just passed, the new owner has to have it tested again. The reason for the test is the air quality here was poor because of factory air pollution and they are making the cars and trucks be tested. How brilliant is that.We have the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA for short) that has coal fired electric plants that pollute like crazy and yet we test cars.It is all a bunch of beaurocratic bull shoi and a money grab. But I guess as long as my cars pass and I am still able to drive,I will keep paying to have them "Tested"-what a joke takes 5 minutes.BJ
^ That is a very interesting point - The power plants contribute significantly more to global warming than the autos on the road (especially considering that 70-80% are probably new enough to pass an e-test). Yet, the regulations that govern e-test on power plants have not gotten significantly more stringent in many years. Hard to imagen having to get e-test every year or at title change - definately a mony grab for someone. Fortunately for me, Iowa is one of those minority states that don't require e-testing.
im glad i live in the sticks
here around knoxville they lowered the speed limit back down to 65 because of pollution and let every peice of shit you can imagine on the road with out a test.seems strange they test in chattanoga and not in ktown when its only about an hour away.
While we're on the emissions debate, what about safety inspections in your neck of the woods?
Here in Ontario,to register a vehicle,it must pass a safety inspection. Once it passes, that owner NEVER needs to have it inspected again while they own that vehicle until it changes owners, yet you need to test your emissions every 2 years.
So...test your emissions every 2 years,but never worry about unsafe tires,brakes,windshield,parking brake,lights,major structural rust/damage....
...anyone? Yeah...I don't get it.
Used to do safety checks in Chattanooga, but stopped it years ago.Does seem funny they check your trucks a--end,but dont pay attention to anything else.Hee-hee.BJ
the epa has upgraded the emmision requirements over the past few years, though not drastic, all of the older plants in the country are currently in process of changing out thier scrubbers, & are buying more expensive coal which already has to have a lower sulfer content, to try to help offset the cost some, most are installing newer boilers to make the plants a little more efficient and help offset the cost of the more expensive coal & installing the new scrubbers......
all in all, they (coal plants) are very polluting, but petroleum plants are too, and so are nuclear plants (although the waste is smaller in size, the the time period for it to "cool" off is a lot longer), and the rivers are too damed up to put any more in, and not to mention it takes water to make the generators turn, and with most of the country in a drought or experiencing less rain than normal, you can't expect to get the same levels of power from an electric generating dam....
within the next 20-30 years, all of the coal plants will have to shut down, because of the cost to run them is too expensive & the epa regs will shut them down too.....gas burning autos, and petrol plants will be near extinction because the epa will have to have stirngent enough laws to keep up with the global community, plus the cost of oil will be way to expensive to process, and the only way the big three auto makers (which is now 4 = toyota) will be able to stay alive is to think outside the box & develope electric or some other alternativly powered cars which will decrease the dependance upon oil.....can't build any more dams as stated before, so all that is left is nuclear power, solar & wind energy which are proven methods for producing power on a large enough scale to support the increase in global population, and are the greenist of the types of power that can be supplied to meet the need....
as far as the thirty something of the 50 states, i think (don't quote me on this) by 2012 all states will have to e-test, not just the major cities, but everyone....I think the antique vehicle thing will still apply.
the stuff about the safety checks is also a two edged knife, those of us who like to modify our vehicles, not only buy lifting or lowering or w/e else we do have problems passing them, but yet some one with no brakes, wipers, bald tires, no headlights don't get a second look.....seems kinda like everything else that the gov has their hands in "situation normal..all phucked up!" I do agree they should have "reasonable" safety checks in conjunction with, emmisions test for vehicles 15 years old or younger, cause face it, if a vehicle has made it to 15, it deserves a break. also dually noted that although both some one with bad brakes can kill you, some
one with a mazda sized cloud of unburnt oil poring out of the exhaust can suffocate & kill ya just the same.
c/m put in some new plugs, get the exhaust fixed, put some octane additive in the truck, and lean out that rich condition just before you
go get the test, you should come closer to passing then, than the way
it is now.....good luck!
