I'm on my way home from work today on the freeway and I pass a sheriff sitting in the median. I am not speeding and doing anything at all wrong. He pulls out and follows me for about 8 miles or more. While following me he goes up beside me in the other lane like he is going to pass then backs off. He does this a few times then gets behind me. We pass another place where cops sit in the median and there's a sheriff there too. He pulls out and the original cop finally pulls me over. So he comes up to my window and I give him my license and insurance stuff. He then asks me if I have any guns, knifes or drugs and of course I don't and I tell him no, not at all. He then asks me if it's OK with me to search my car. I said sure, go ahead. So he gets me out of the car and I go behind it and talk to the other sheriff about the car and the plans for it. He was pretty cool so I asked what I was being pulled over for. He said he didn't know, that I would have to ask the cop who pulled me over. The sheriff that asked to search my car looked in the front only. Didn't look in the back seats or the very back (It's in my big ass wagon.) He then says "ok, you can go now." ?????? I didn't bother asking why he pulled me over but I did say "Is that all" and he replied "yep."

So is it legal to just pull someone over, be a dick and search a car for no reason at all? By running my tags couldn't he see that I have absolutely nothing on my record and that I have never been arrested or in any kind of trouble at all? It seams to me that this was classic harassment, but what the hell can I do about that. Nothing.

in california it is illegal for a police officer to follow you for more than a mile (maybe its 5) with no intention of pulling you over, or if you've done nothing wrong,

Yea, that's what I am thinking. I'm ok with the 8 mile follow because after we passed his "Backup" then I got pulled over. It just BS.

Lebanon, OH

I thought about reporting it but honestly, what good would it do. He get a smack on the hand or something? Not to mention, he didn't say shit about my windows being way too dark. But other than that my car is totally legal.

you cant fight the law.

haters will hate.

im glad my town isnt like that.the cops here are ok with cruising and getting together as long as no one drags on the street in traffic and if theres no drugs or drinking or fighting.. there used to be a big problem with fighting because the local clubs were essentially gangsters with semi nice trucks,cars.. but as soon as i leave town and hit the i5 or highway 99.. the po-po love me..

Your lucky he didn't pop you for your window tint....Ohio is like 50% which is like completely clear...lol. Especially if he was hunting to tag you with something.
