So Cal.Paint Job

Besides the quality. The supplies are a big reason why some people charge more. The other is labor. You dont work at a well known shop and make minimum wage.

I spent 1k on just the paint supplies I needed. Not counting the small stuff like masking paper/tape, DX330, tach cloths, and sand paper.

Unfortunately paint it not cheap nowadays....especially when you want something that pops, even some of the single colour paintjobs with OEM colour have over 1500 in material ( paint, reducer, hardener...) Not including the sandpaper, tapes, masking paper, primers, tack rags, paper towels...Not to mention the shop has to cover overhead, the cost of safety equiptment, like resperators, paint suits, gloves and gun cleaner.....Most people don't realise what all is involved in a paintjob....Not to mention the manhours to block out a whole truck, often times more than once, remask the entire truck for each stage of paint....hell when I painted my truck straight blue( 350Z ) I hd over 1200 in materials alone, not to mention when I threw the graphics on...and the materials for the next paintjob, which is very basic( brown kandy, with base tan flames will be over 2000.....

YOU GUYS THAT ARE THINKGING ITS "JUST PAINT" HOW HARD CAN IT BE....WELL GO TO YOUR LOCAL JUNKYARD GET A USED HOOD....FIX IT STEP BY STEP ( THE WAY ANY LOCAL BODYSHOP...NOT CUSTOM SHOP..) GET THE EQUIPMENT...AND GO TO TOWN....NOW ON THAT SAME HOOD ADD SOMETHING CUSTOM, VENTS, COWL HOOD SCOOP...ETC....THEN DECIDE HOW HARD IT WOULD BE TO JUST "PAINT"....NOW PLEASE DONT GET MAD...I AM NOT TRYING TO BE AN A$$...JUST NO BULL$HIT...STRIGHT TALKING....AND YOU DID ASK....10K IS A LOT FOR THE EAST COAST....BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...THE PAINT AT MY COST JUST TO PAINT MY SUBURBAN...ONE FREAKING COLOR...ONE...DUPONT HOT HUES...500.00 FOR THE COLOR NOT ACTIVATER, REDUCER, PRIMER, HARDNER, THE TAPE ETC......I FIGURE WHEN I GET DONE WITH THE INSIDE AND OUT SIDE DOOR PANELS DASH HEADLINER SPEAKIER BOX I CAN EASILY BE @3K...JUST PAINT SMOOTHING OUT ALL THE PLASTIC ETC,,,,MY TWO CENTS....

HOLY SHIT I GET HAPPY WHEN A CUSTOMER AGREES TO 3500! DAMM 10G IN CALI? I NEED TO MOVE OVER THERE! THANK GOD I DONT PAY THOSE PRICES ANYMORE

if yall are getting 3500 for an all over paint job, yall are either fuckign your selves or it is a "scuff n shoot" if you own or work at the paint shop. we start out around 3k and ususally as high as 8k depending on what the customer wants done and what all tehy want done.

Thanks for all the replies.I now have a few shops that I can check out,and it's never about being cheap,it's about wanting something clean,that other mini truckers can admire,without breaking the piggy bank.I'm not trying to detail my frame and under carriage,which I would if I had the money.Just want something that when looked at close up,still gets thumbs up.Thanks again.

I just paid 5k for the paint and body work on my truck and its no two tone. I took the truck to him striped and putting it back together myself saves alot but damn 10k for a 2 tone. I mean I bought a qt of HOK tangalo pearl and hardner and it was like 75 bucks. And I know the PPG green thats on my truck in the gal that was bought with all the extras was 165.00 so maybe I just get cheaper prices on paint here. who knows

and my body work was a complete fix all the dings,Paint was inside and out including the grafix

if you call $6000 cheap for paint...you must be wiping your ass with benjamins. 2000-3000 is the going price around here in cen.fla. for a reputable shop to spray. 10,000 is fucking rediculous

i wouldnt pay 10g's for paint if my budget was twice that.
