if you only spend 1000 bucks on paint, you might as well spray it with a wagner. Its more complicated than just paint...base and reducer, clear, clear reducer, clear hardener, primer, primer reducer, primer hardener, bondo, sand paper, scuff pads, paper, tape, It sounds easy but if you want it to look good (even if you do it yourself) its gonna be expensive, plus a lot of work, i think 7000 is a good price for a complete paint job, underhood, with two-tone through the jambs. If its a good shop you also get the confidence that the body work will be done right too.
Im glad im good friends with a bodyman/painter!
hell I only paid $3000 for the paint job on my sonoma! it had its flaws though, but it wasn't some wild show truck... hell even if it was I don't think i'd pay $10K.
I mean, yea, painting it myself is not something I care to do,but There has to be someone in So Cal.that can do it for,at the most $7,000.Even that amount can sure set a working man back. Thanks to all the replies. At least I'm getting good feedback.
paintin place in oeange county, There awsome... And when your done there go hit up Steve VanDeman for sometight ass airbrushing...
I can't imagine spending 10K-12K on a paint job. Thats more than my truck is worth, by a lot. At wholesale cost, I'm looking at a little over $1K in supplies for DuPont base/clear and everything that goes with it. For one color. Thats probably about what it will cost the bodyshop. The clear is whats expensive.
If you want to try to paint it yourself, rent a booth for a weekend. Its like $300.
Yep paint job's in the So Cal area are high dollars now, I'm spending around 10g's for body and paint on my 65 Suburban and it's just a standard two stage job.
I spent over 5g's back in 95 when I painted my full size Chevy at Starbucks in Riverside (now Starside, still Doug Starbuck) now it would be 10's and I did not need any body work it was still straight.
Hey it may not be the greatest idea but go to your local high school auto body. They usually have night classes for cheap. They supply the tools supplies booth and spray guns etc. I know here in oklahoma city you can take a 7 week 2 nights a week course where you can fix and paint your own car. So you might check into that. I know you'll appriciate it more if you able to say you did it all. Just my two cents.
wow.... ship it here to florida lol and drop it off at mad mods... i think his paint starts off at 3500 but they do it right and definitely show quality... those socal prices are ridiculous... once im done with paint and body school i should move out there and ass rape people to paint there cars lol
10g's FOR PAINTING A TWO TONE....May be if you were getting some crazy body work done..But for paint alone that's crazy..
Im sure with the EPA and other restrictions in Cali plus the added cost of materials they have to use due to regulations is the reason for price difference between there and TX/FL etc...... Here at my shop in MS prices for a 2 tone start at 4k and go up depending on how detailed the break is.
