what got you into minis
been into muscle cars and hot rods my whole life. my pops is a mechanic, so i was basically raised in a garage.
got my truck when i was 15. started drawing what i wanted it to look like, and it was always hammered. Dale from Acro with a silver space cab Isuzu stopped in my dads shop and had some exhaust work done. talked a couple times. introduced my to MT mag when i was around 17. its been on since.
funny thing, my dad thought it was silly for a while. until i showed him that it can be done well, etc. now he wants bags on his 1967 Pontiac LeMans when we build it!
Well...way back in the day when I was in high school, long before mini trucks were around (LOL don't ask) I was into street rods and lowriders and used to hit all the custom van shows. Fast forward to 1998, wanting to build something really bad but couldn't make up my mind what. Saw a sweet little toyota dragging by and within a month bought a brand new one and started the transformation. Found out that once you start you can't stop!
for me i started out wit a pos car that i received as a first car and got a stereoe and my bro helped, so i started trying to get into the car audio and then i was reading all the car audio mags that had lowered trucks and was like damn that is kewl, so i bought a ranger and from then on it has been game on( 97) is when i bought the ranger and look where it is today and what it has lead to and will lead to into the future and with my kids. I even got my fiance to get involved( i turned a i can't believe you do that to a truck to what is the next mod we are doing to our toys)
For me strated in 92-93. My buddy Brian had a brand new Toyota x-cab, 4wheel air shocks and 16s. He dragged into the McDonalds and I didnt know what hit me. That was the s*&t!!!
When i was sitting at a red light in my chevette about 1993 when i was like 17....all of the sudden i heard boom boom boom and this convertible nissan pulled up with the drip paintjob and static dropped almost to the ground playing techmaster p.e.b. dude wearing oakleys looked over at me and laughed because i had screwed my autozone aftermarket mirrors to my upper window posts.HEY!they were sport mirrors damnitt! I knew then that i was a minitrucker even though i was in a chevette with tinted windows. I saved and saved and got a nissan 720. The day i bought it i lowered it and scratched my head about 8 spark plugs.....wtf. i primered it and put baby moon wheels on it and that was the beginning.
a lowered mazda and some suburban that a guy named jon leach owned
heres my story guy's i have always been into cars since i was like 4 or 5. well i had a 91 mustang with some shit done to it and i ended up tearing it up, well a local guy had a converitble mustang that i wanted so i went and test drove it and talked to the bank and they OK'd it for a loan, sooooo after i went back to talk the final price with the guy he said he was going to take the nitrous off but not come down on the price, i was pretty bummed about that. so i said forget it and went home as i was looking through the local auto trader right in the middle of all the adds for mustangs was a a 94 ranger no picture just said it had "custom Suspension" well i went to look at it and wasnt really sure it was me, so i drove it down the road and these little kids were out playing in front of there house and when i road by they stopped and pointed at it cause it was low and had primer spots on it i guess. but from right then i knew i was an attention whore and i had to have a truck that was as low as possible!!!
i saw a verted ranger in myrtle beach and i was hooked. dam that was 21 years ago. yes i am from the old school. those where the days
it was a long process for me... started out in high school in 11th grade when the extremes were the baddest things out there. i ended up buying an s10 and put a xenon body kit on it, overall 3 sets of clear tails, and lowered more and more every month. Me and trey and a few buddies were always seeing who could do something new every month. Ill always remember drew had my daddy with a white s10 on silver 19's lowered 6" with SHAVED DOOR HANDLES! man that was the shit back then Anyway it progressed into lowering it 2/0 then 2/3 then 4/3 then 4/4 on 18's then 4/6 then bagging the front with the kit on 18/20 then bagging the back .... whew.... then rebagging the front on new 20s without the kit then cutting the bitch all apart for what you see now After 5 years me and trey are still going strong and his little brother b got hooked at 15 and bodydropped his truck before anybody I love this sport like nothing else and wouldnt change a thing other than wasting time and money on shit thats rotting behind the shop right now. MT bitz!
In the late 80s my oldest bro had a Mazda that was lowered and was in a mini club. Knew I would own a mini as soon as I could.
Saying I'm hooked would not be correct. It is my life.
