Houston: I live not to far from the Astordome. All this negative hype your hearing about rape, looting, car jacking and other stuff is not true. Now, so criminal activities have happen but they were arrested on the spot.
Before, I get off my soap box. The vicitims do not want to be in this state of condiition. How would you feel if you could not eat or drink for a few days? You could not use a clean bathroom? Wait, how about this one. You have money in the bank but cannot use your atm card becasue the banks are down!

also what a lot of people dont realize is that the state had to request the aid from the government then it had to be voted on.
all this takes time. im from new orleans and i think if you didnt get out its basically your own problem. there was a mandatory evacuation of the area which tells you if you dont leave dont expect any help. this is the reason i left. what most people dont realize is that these assholes that are begging for stuff on the national news are the same ones who want free stuff all the time. i just think the people who didnt leave were just too uneducated to understand the seriousness of the matter. if you dont live near new orleans you will never understand that the people (blacks) are different than almost anywhere else. right now im in a predominantly black town in texas waiting to go home and there is no problem being the only white person in the store. if i were the only white in a store in new orleans i would know to get the hell out of there. they are just totally different around new orleans. im not a racist by any means so dont call me one. i just want everyone to know how it is on that area.

Yano i find it Ironic that THE DAY AFTER the Tsunami in Asia, our fine President Bush is calling for aide and sending all these troops over there and ordering out Naval Ships to go there and help so quickly, and we have givin over 9 Billion Dollars to these people already, now this happens and its in our "homeland" and look how its handled, i don't think i have to say anything more. Oh and don't hate on Kanye West just cause he speaks his mind, people thought Thomas Edison was a complete idiot too for putting a Key on a Kite in a lightining storm........................

I guess everyone thinks FEMA,and our government sit right at the edge of town before a hurricane strikes ready to hand out money,and supplies.It doesn't happen like that.Everyone has to take care of themselves,and their families for a few days before any aid shows up.I've spent my days at the house with no water,or power because of hurricanes waiting for some kind of order to be restored.Every time we get a hurricane everyone pulls together and helps one another till aid arrives which always takes days,not hours.This time it's really bad.Whole towns are destroyed,along with the roads that lead to them.I don't think anyone knew how bad this storm was going to be,and nobody was prepared.It takes time to coordinate,and put into action a plan to help everyone when its a tragedy on this scale.You can't just send people in to help before you know what your sending them into.Roads have to be cleared,bridges need to be checked,downed powerlines need to be checked,and so on.If you just load up a truck and tell someone to get in a go to help now you could be sending that person to their death,and nobody wants to do that.If you were the person in charge of sending aid to the people in New Orleans would you send innocent people in there to help if they we getting shot at by the locals?I sure as hell wouldn't.
As far as Bush goes I can't see how people can blame him for whats going on.He's one man up in washington.All he can do is tell FEMA,or the military to go help.It's up to them as to when they get there.I saw Jesse Jackson on the news playing the race card last night (big suprise there).He was saying how poorly Bush has handled this situation because N.O. has a large black community.Now if Kerry had been in office and the same thing was happening then he would have been on the news telling everyone how great of a job the president was doing,and these things just take time.I'm not a democract,nor a republican.I'm a realist that realizes everyone needs to pull their heads out of there asses,and their political party's ass and realize that everything is be done as fast as possible to help everyone affected by Katrina.
