Does the truck have and auto or manual tranny? If it's an auto it might be a problem with the torque converter. I just went through a similar problem with my car- After it got up to operating temperature it would cut off every time you came to a stop. It would run perfect when you had it out of gear, but as soon as you put it in gear it would shut off. It ended up being a switch on the tranny that was malfunctioning and locking the torque converter up as soon as the car was put into gear, which would cause the engine to die. I unplugged the switch and it's run fine ever since. Anyways, just thought that might help.

I agree with vacuum hoses. And with the automatic statement, but if I remember correctly yours is a 5 spd.
Its most likely your old carb is a piece of junk. Get a weber. Say goodbye to the feedback octopus and improve your mileage. The first mod on any Mazda should always be to ditch the Nikki carb.

EGR valve does exactly that, it will stick open then when you come to a stop the engine dies, some are vaccum operated to close, so it could still be a vaccuum leak to the egr valve.

most inspection stations have a "visual inspection" that look to see if the stock equipment is still in there. I know BMW 2002 owners that just modified the stock aircleaner to fit the weber carb (guys were bolting that same exact carb on their bimmers in 1971) A weber carb should pass the sniffer test better than a stock carb.
But sometimes visual inspection means "make sure every vacuum hose is connected correctly. In which case you are porked.

well russ all i have is like 190$ so i dont think ill be getting one unless someone has a cheap one for sale...
also i got to looking at the fuel filter and its bubblin like its getting air in it like crazy so i called autozone and he saoid it was water making it do that so i went and got some stuff called heat and put in it(and it started this yesterday after i washed it off) it seemed to help just a little but it still dies when you hit the brake kinda hard. it only dies when i push on the break hard, i can stop just not fast or it will die and yes its a 5 speed tranny.

definitely makes me think vacuum leak, stopping fast means you are hard on the brakes and the booster is using engine vacuum.
I think the EGR valve is on the back (furthest point away from the engine, not closest to the firewall) of the intake under the carb. Dont quote me though.
