Tony, you've got to keep in mind that not all people have others around to help them. The people they have to help are on SSM not in their backyard. And bitching about someone "overengineering" something is about the dumbest fucking comment I've ever heard in my life. If you want to cut and hack and pray that yours is worth a shit when its done, then go ahead. If someone wants to measure 15 times before they cut once and think about doing a body drop for a year before they cut anywhere, wtf does it matter to you? Does it bother you that their truck is nicer and better built? Why do you think that is, because they thought about shit before they did it? Nah, couldn't be.

And heres to your "overengineering" comment

Thats an "overengineered" Mazda layin 1/2" into the door, on 18s, with factory heat, a/c, and full steering clearance laid out, not to mention more leg and head room than factory, etc, etc...

I have done at least 5 Mazdas that layed frame and never heard of having to Z the frame to lay it out. I do know that Toyotas are that way but never a Mazda. I also know that a Mazda wont truly lay the frame flat unless you trim all the crossmembers. they have a little piece of metal that wraps around the crossmembers.
you can install a 350 in one and still keep it under the hood. mines BD to the door and it would fit under a stock hood, but mine has 3/4" taken out of the oilpan and the trans pan lays 1/2" off the ground when layed out. fuel injection may give you a little more room or a smaller air cleaner may also.

^^^well the last thing i want to do is get into a scuffle with you mike, cuz your cool and i respect you and your knowledge plus you were cool enough to get back to me a few years ago regarding my install (what headers you were using).
obviously there is not only ONE way to do things. i'm still trying to figure out a way to avoid Z-ing my frame and avoid having to trim my front crossmember (because i have one that is trimmed already and my bolts look very simalar to the pic i posted on the first page.)
my truck lays pretty hard on the frame with my trimmed crossmember but it leaves me no meat for dragging.
i would rather z-the frame but my front end is aready built and there are too many variables.
i had a (stupid) idea of just raising the whole bottom section (where the lowwer control arms and crossmember are mounted under the frame but it looks like i would throw the geometry WAYY off and my bag would compress too soon along with my shocks. anywayy thats why i was asking you if there was anything you had to do to your iol pickup with just .5" of section off your iol pan.

make the engine crossmember out of plate thats 1/2" thick and replace it every time you drag thru it. you should never let it get so bad that you are draggin thru the bolt holes.

i was thinkin' more like 1", (by the way that pic i posted was not mine).

even if the crossmember is trimmed or "filed" (as i mentioned in my very first post)at the point to where the frame (at least mine) would actually lay my lowwer control arm bushings are very well unprotected (which is perfectly fine if the truck is just going to be layed and not dragged very hard) and if i do plate that section than i'm right back where i started.

my rockers lay hard enough to drag the crap out of them but in the back of my head it still bugs the hell out of me that my frame doe'snt lay hard with a stock crossmember with plenty of meat on it.

anyway's i'm just voiceing my opinions thru my experiances on my truck.
better to just disregard anything i ever said here on ssm and listen to the professional's like mike white and sadistic and russ, and everyone else here.
i apologize for any confusion i cause here on these forums , i onloy mean to be of help ut instead i just cause confusion.

what do i know anyway I AM NOT A PROFFESIONAL just someone who has gone thru a hell of alot of trial and error and hopefully trying to save someone some greif.

once again, my apologies and nice knowing you people.

later, RUDY.
