if things don't fit any more, then it sounds like a fuel cell is the best idea.
run an electric lp pump off that and you're golden.

no the mechanical pump is bolted to intake manifold side of the engine, it has an arm that goes to the cam.

If I went with a fuel cell and electric pump, I could always use a regulator.

What is the ohms for the sending unit on these Mazda's? Same as GM? 0-90ohm?

I did some more research to answer my last question:

From the 1988 factory manual, section 15 page 14:
Empty: 103-117 ohms
Half full 28.5 - 36.5 ohms
Full 1 - 5 ohms

But anyways, I decided I am going to go with a low pressure inline electric pump and fuel regulator. Thanks for your help guys! I appreciate learning about this stuff.

Since I am using an inline electric pump and regulator, do I need a return line from the stock tank? Or will just one line from the tank to the pump, to the regulator, to the filter, to the carb be enough?

If just one line, which port on the top of the fuel tank is the one I need to connect to?

The one with a pick up line to the bottom of tank.. The port with no pick up.. Would be the return..

I got this working 4 months ago, but thanks.

I couldn't get the pickup off the tank because the screws were rusted and snapping.
