This whole Not Working thing sucks...

So I finished trade school like 3 weeks ago. I went to become a Heating & Air Conditioning Gas Fitter. It was a 5 month co-op course that I started in March, hence why I sold all my trucks.

So I passed the first half of the course, and got my basic Gas Fitter licence out of it,where I can pretty much work on any natural gas or propane applicances up to 400 000 btu, as long as I am under supervision from someone with a higher licence. So after I got that licence, I continued on to get the next licence, which enables me to work on my own. I graduated the course and passed my practical exam with 81%, but I failed my written exam by 10%. Now I have to wait until mid September at the earliest, and pay $150 to rewrite the exam to get my full Gas Fitter licence.

Strangely, Ontario has probably some of the strictest training in North America when it comes to the HVAC trade. In many states, you don't need any special certification or anything.

Anyways, while I was going to school, I was working at my co-op placement every other week (unpaid too...I haven't had a paycheck since the first of March). The guy I was working for says that he has hired me,but I've been out of work for 2 weeks. I know that he's slow right now and doesn't have much going on,so apparently I'm on call. The weird part is that he said not to bother going on unemployment, but go find another job instead.

This kind of annoys me,because if I take another job,I don't really plan to go back and work for this guy. I like him and the guys I work with there and all,but if I can't get steady work out of him, then I don't see the point. Many of the days where I was on the job,I probably only worked 5-6 hours a day getting 25-30 hours a week. We haven't discussed wages yet, but if he's going to pay me something like $10/hr,I can't live on that while taking home like $250-300/week.

So the whole time I've been "off" I've applied for a bunch of jobs, but haven't heard back from ANY of them yet.

I've applied for:
-Two car dealership detailing positions
-Scrap yard parts dismantler (I really want this job)
-General Building Maintenance Technician (Or this one)
-Landscaping labourer
-Enterprise Rent-A-Car
-Sign installer for a sign/graphics company
-Fire alarm installer
-Network cabling installer

So I've applied for 9 jobs in 2 weeks and got nothing. I'm pretty much qualified, or have the skills for every one of those jobs. I'm getting bummed out because I'm used to being busy and working long hours. Yeah it's nice to have the time off in the summer, but it sucks when you don't have any money.

I've been living off money from selling my trucks and all their parts, I just sold my Cadillac 2 weeks ago,and my grandparents gace me a monthly float of about $1000/month while I was in school and it's still been tough to get by.

Sorry for being so long,I just had to vent a bit.

totally understand the time off but no money thing. your bound to get something, I have had jobs that didn't call back until about three weeks of turning the app

I know when I had gone to B.C. on service trips to r.v. dealers they told me anytime an rv was bought by a different owner it had to have the gas system tested. Good Idea IMO but that might be something to check out as side work.

lol with gas prices the way they are,I don't think RV sales are making record numbers this year haha. But that's BC law, might be different in Ontario.

I've gone to the temp agency in town and they have nothing right now, they're totally dead. I worked on Monday for 4 hours with a moving company and then we finished and that was it. Go me,I have a $40 paycheck coming in a week. :p

to my parents and grandparents, for me,because I love to do automotive stuff, they say to keep it as a hobby because if I work on cars all day long I won't want to work on my own.

Pssssht whatever! Atleast support me and realize that I enjoy doing that and I'm good at it,so why not put my existing skills to work on something I really enjoy doing?

I'll come to WA if you sign me a green card and put me up. lol
