If you are buying a project to fix / resell, and for 600 you can buy either a Datsun, Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, or Mazda, . . .
You buy the Mazda because it is the easiest to fix.
AND
There are more of them in parts yards, so parts are easier to find.

you buy a whole truck just for a few parts, which was cheaper then buying the parts at the wreckers
or
keep a spare ecu on hand just incase yours dies
