Yes the blue box goes dirrectly to the postive post of the battery. I use a 4 gauge cable from the alt. to the battery. the red box you dont need any thing there for the alt. to work but you can buy a new replacment little plug that goes from the aut parts store. It will have a red wire and a white wire. the red loops back to the post in the blue box and the white goes to the idiot light wire from your factory harness. I didn't have the two wire plug hooked up for a long time but I did hook it up because to "charge" light was always on. The alt is for a 1980 buick regal limited it is I belive 85 amps. When I bought my regal the previous owner had this new alt. for the car so I put it on the mazda.

^^ not sure but cant be to many amps due to these truck not having much electrical component. I do remeber I had to buy a new alt for my 86 mazda lx truck and it was higher amp according to the parts guy. My lx had air cond.,cruise, factory cassete player with equalizer, clock, and such. All of which is why he told me I needed the higher amp one but I dont recall how many amps more it was. You might want to go to the parts store and ask whats the difference.

the stock alts suck in these trucks, once you hook up 2 compressors it basically takes all the amps to run. i went with the one wire gm. i paid 100 bucks on ebay shipped, ground down one of the mounts and it bolted right up, i'm loving it so far.

when i installed mine i found that i had to extend the adjustment bracket, make hole bigger and give the adjustment bracket a shave down b.c the fan blades on the alternator would rub
