Nope.

It runs better with the exhaust disconnected (and a lot louder). And I can get it down to 1100 RPM without it wanting to die, but if I let off the gas pedal and it goes to idle it still drops too low, and gets rough. Then it stumbles a bit when I press the gas pedal again. It still seems like its running rich. But it doesn't make sense. The carb is rebuilt again, all cleaned out, and thats all I can do. These carbs aren't tunable. It only has a fast idle screw.

from what i have read, i think you should replace your cat. if it runs better at higher rpms with the exhaust disconnected and then like shit when you let off the gas, i would say that is because of no back pressure. if your carb has been running while plumbed wrong and getting to much gas and running rich than you probably clogged up the cat. try pulling out one of the spark plugs and take a flat tip and scraping one of the pistons to see how much gunk you get off of it. the guy that timed my 83's engine last got it off about 6 degrees and we had to adjust the carb to get it to run rich just to run at all. now i am in the process of retiming the engine and getting some head work done to it. when i pulled the head off the pistons were caked with black sute. if you have that crap coming out of your tail pipe than you better believe it is in your cat and the rest of the exhaust. and you have been driving it for a while so you can only imagine how much it is clogged. when i rebuilt my 2.2 in my 89 b2200 i cranked it up without the exhaust hooked up. ran great when you mashed the gas but wouldn't idle. with everything else you have done i would give that exhaust a try. hope this helps bro.

So is there a possibility it might be vapor locking???? That just came to me in a weird day dream so i thought I would get on here and ask.

Well I just came in to report my findings. I decided to let it sit for a day or so without messing with it. Mostly because I am frustrated. So I went out today and hooked the exhaust back up, and just started it. It started and ran fine but the choke still did not kick on, and it died on its own. So I started it back up, with similar results. So I looked under the hood,, turned the idle up half a turn, moved the choke linkage with my hand, then moved the choke plate manually, stared at it, then started it again. This time it ran fine, choke activated itself, warmed up, then went down to idle without any issues.

Now all I have to do is drive it around and hope nothing else goes wrong...

That would have been pretty sweet. I drove it around today. Seemed to run fine until the motor warmed up and the choke turned off. Anything below 1500 RPM just dies. It doesn't sputter or run rough, it just shuts off and I have to dump a gear or pull over and start it...

Okay a friend of mine suggested starting it cold so the choke kicks on. Then while it runs on its own go under the hood and rev it up real high and close the choke flap manually. I did it a few times and it now seems to idle fine. I've been driving it for about 20 minutes with no issues so far.
