yeah, especially when you consider all the drinking, ladies, and well...unfortunately fights. and your dues is what you pay to work on your truck and to get in to shows....so not much of a difference eh?

I agree with this right here. All a degree says is that you learned how to kiss ass for 4 years. Your going to have to be re-trained when you enter the field any ways. I got a degree and been working the same job since I got out of high school. And now all my buddies are graduating and make shit pay but all they have is a piece of paper and a shitty intern job.
its been my experience that it is not hard to find a good paying job without a degree. The problem comes when you get sick of one job and need to find a SECOND that will pay you as well, in the same town, so you dont have to move your family.
I also know several people that wish they had a degree to fall back on when they get laid off unexpectedly. Or get to 45 and they are in danger of being replaced by a 20 year old who will work for half. This is when your degree is worth it.
I dont know what school you went to but my undergrad was no cake walk ass kissing program. You worked hard or you failed, and in 4 years I got an EE major, anad both a CE and Mathematics minor. Its true that you can get baloney degrees, my graduation ceremony was 4000 fine arts, 1500 business, and 100 engineers. In fact we had a joke, "the limit of engineering as GPA approaches zero is business, the limit f business as GPA approaches zero is Fine Arts, the limit of Fine Arts as GPA approaches zero is "would you like fries with that?"" haha well it loses something with out the symbols.
I used to think like you, dont misunderstand me. Then I hit 30 and topped out my advancement, someone literally had to die for me to move up. I changed jobs for mor opportunity and started at the bottom again. Then I noticed, I came in at 5am and left at 5:30 (working 12's) with an unpaid 30 minute lunch. About 8 am the engineers would show up. At 11 they left for their paid lunch hour. When they left to go home at 3pm, I still had 2.5 hours to work. And these guys were making more in 40 than I was in 60.
I know engineering isnt for everyone, and there sure isnt anything wrong with building homes or laying shingle or sitting in a forklift your entire career. But college is made to put you past that. Everything worth anything is hard.
Not trying to preach, and you dont have to listen, but someday you will remember exactly this conversation.
I got a better idea now....how bout we jump the guy who tryed to compare a Frat to being a minitrucker.
it was a very sarcastic comparison, and since i've been both, i think i can compare whatever i want

I totalled agree russ. Thats why I went to school for engineering myself. I actually enjoyed it. Yes it was hard but just getting my bachelors has paid off. I am 22 right now and I plan on going back to at least get my BSEE. The only reason I had to stop where I did was b/c school wasn't paying my bills. I had to work more to pay them. Now that I am finally financially able to pay for both I am going back. I am tired of climbing ladders all day and working my ass off already and I am only 22.
frat guys cant be minitruckers, they are to skinny by average.
congrats twistedsdime, I hope you do finish your EE, good luck!
here at UF some fraternities are OK. Not my cup of tea at all though. They all take tons of time away from you personally. If you dont show up for some function you are questioned why and a bunch of other BS.
As far as schooling itself goes, I get my BSME this dec. 5.5 long years of work (the program at UF is supposed to take 4.5-5 years). but i def have cut loose my fair share.
speaking of which...i need to get back to reverse engineering a tire pressure gauge....
