So I have been having a humming noise come from my truck when I get about 50 miles an hour. by 65 70 its pretty loud. I took it in to the dealer to get the AC charged (cause its so hot in az right now) and two techs said the pinion angle is way off. Im thinking they just dont want to get into it.
I was talking this over with Lowboy, he said if it was way off, it would be vibrating. Its not. The four link is some kinda bolt on kit. Lowboy and I will check it out, but have any of you had this issue? Maybe it needs new ujoints and carrier baring?
The dealer insists that its a drive line issue, there is some ring and pinion noise but the real issue is the drive line.
Any help would be appreciated...
is the noise you have consistant, or does it change when the truck goes up and down? i had to change my carrier and u-joints because of humming just like you describe. but if it changes when hitting dips in the road when the suspension goes up and down it is the pinion angle. hope this helps, brian
three things it could be.... tires, rear axcel needs fluid, or maybe if its a manual transmision could be a throw out bearing. If its automatic maybe a flywheel issue...
I've had humming from bad pinion angle before.
yep i had to raise my carrier bearing after i bagged mine because of bad humming
dont forget about all the other mods you had to do lilj, or are we keeping the skyhooks and carberator belts a secret?
shit mine even that low...
I will change the carrier bearings and ujoints first, then raise it...
How did you do it? I havent even looked...
cut a piece of pipe to length, and get some longet grade 8 bolts...
^^^^ yep what he said.... brain dont be telling everyone about the skyhooks and carb belts some stuff people need to learn on there own
cehck the fluid level too jsut to be safe but i would start with the carrier and u joints and proceed back to pinion angle and waht bout even a ring and pinion gogin bad?
