Trucks yeah not cars anymore
I use little pieces of brass to back small holes im welding up (like stock trim holes) Sipmly weld the hole shut and pull the brass backing off, brass wont weld to steel and it will absorb alot of the heat from the steel.
yeah the brass trick works great!!!
use blown bags for mock up, u can weld and whatever w/ them in, and it dont matter cuz there blown anyways. 7 dollar degree wheel and 5 dollar 12 in magnetic level from home depot are best tools ive bought in a while

When using slam bags, use a blown firestone for mockup. They collapse about 50 times easier. Good point James.
Also, if you are welding up stock trim holes and cant get brass behind it, thread in a steel bolt. cut and grind it flush, and then weld it in.

remember that a 'stone collapses about a 1/4 inch more than a slam though
i also like to take tape and tape over the hole i wana shane. trace out w/ a marker and cut it otu w/ a razor blade. tape on filler metal. cut around it, instant presto filler plate.
A stud welder will put a nice handle on a small filler.(key hole, antenna)
