Consider yourself lucky brother. I spend atleast 550 in books every semester. This semester, my Statics+Dynamics book cost $205 alone. Thermodynamics coming in second @ $160
Damn hardback books are a bitch.
Yep Engineering books arent cheap.
I'm taking a Mechanical Engineering Technology course. When I'm done I'll be a CET. Its a 2.5 yr program if you do it full time (I'm not so I'll be 3.5 or so). You dont come out a Professional Engineer, but you do get alot more hands on experience and spend less time in school. I learned AutoCad, SolidEdge, some Catia and now I'm learning UGS NX4. But at the same time, we did welding and fabrication classes, machining and CNC programming, so you learn the hands on end of things as well. I have another full term plus a couple classes left to do. I am already working as an Engineering Tech in the Industrial Engineering Dept at a Power Transformer manufacturer. Its a pretty good job, as its something new everyday. When I need a break from the office, I can go do some welding and fabwork for stuff around the shop that I've designed. I already know I will be back here full time when I'm done school, and probably managing within a couple of years.
As much as I hate going to school, and learning things I know I will never use (calculas, numerical programming are all mandatory classes) You have to take the bad with the good. I've done fluid mechanincs and fluid power (includes pneumatics), physics, machine design, strength of materials, CAD, CAE programs etc. All stuff that is applicable to minitruckin which is nice, but I can also use it to get a real job. haha.
