I was just pointing out if you're going to tell someone not to further their education by posting a weak as 'display' of your talent, it had better be a good one... and as far as web design, which i know a good detail of, it's a horrible example.
I started school yesterday, taking my Pre veternirian Medicine books are horrible to buy. I bought my Biology and Art book and the Art book was used and it still cost 60 bux and my Biology book was 90 bux :-\ i still got one more book to buy

Ah, i had just figured you had hired an 8 year old to make "Wicked cool neon letters in graiffiti style font with billions of whurly turley flash shit spread about".
This is web 2.0, CSS, Ajax, div tables.
Flash makes me vomit.
Hahahaha. Now I'm no web guru, but I do print work and have a degree. 90% of the people who say that they are a "designer" have a pirated copy of Photoshop and no sense of history or skill at all. Anyone can take a font and give it a layer style and call it a day. Thats one of my biggest issues with the profession.
That and people not thinking that your work is worth what it is worth. I have charged everywhere from $100 to $14,000 for a logo and identity package. You get what you pay for people.
But about school - go. It's the most fun and least amount of responsibility you will ever have. Trust me, I wish I could go back, and go for whatever your interets are. Art, History, Teaching, Psychology, maybe you'll take a course and get really into something. and just go for it.

don't get so edgy man. Jey makes a good point. It's a great start on a website but to tell someone that "this" is what you could have without going to college is not very appealing.
i agree with your comment...im not trying to be a dick bro... really im not like that... but i had to say something cause that guy didnt build that...he has never done anything for my business except move a tv into my lounge area... and really i did that flash to show a customer of mine and never took it down... its just in case someone hits on it they can see some shit and call me....but as for jeys comment about hiring a 8 year old to make neon letters and making him vomit... thats not cool bro
GEEK FIGHT!!!!!... LOL J/K GUYS I CAN'T WORK "PAINT"
go to school. no one will take you seriuosly without that piece of paper called a degree. but if you can start your own business and it becomes sucessful, go for it.
i went to a 2yr art school and got my associates. after working in the field for 5 years, i'm up to around $40k year salary in ohio, plus freelance.
web/graphic/motion/etc. design can be learned by trial and error and learning what's in style. but without a degree, it's hard to get a professional job out there.
good luck!

I highly disagree with that. Yes you can learn what is in style and what is popular this minute, but you can't just decide you want to design and say you're a designer. You have to know where you've been in order to know where you are going. Sure you can mess around with photoshop all day and add effects and filters to everything, but that doesn't mean it looks good.
If you are indeed a designer like you say you are, take a little more pride in your job man. It's NOT that easy. NOT everyone can do it, trust me, I see hacks on a daily basis.
I quit my job to go to school full time, here are some numbers for you.
When I quit I was making 14.35 an hour. With overtime thats about 35k a year, and 48hr work weeks. I was at the top of my pay scale, I would have had to move to another job to make more than inflation raises every year.
5 years later I have an electrical engineering degree and am almost done with my MBA. The STARTING salary, not wishful thinking, not I hope to make, but the STARTING salary range for those two degrees (operations concentration in the MBA) and good grades is 76-108k with a 10k signing bonus. I have 15hrs left, believe me when I say they come looking for you.
So do the math. Even if you figure the 6 years of NO income, my income potetial has still almost tripled and I can "pay myself back" for the 6 years of school in only 2 years of work. Thats 8 years total investment, triple the original salary, and unlimited earning potential.
GO TO SCHOOL. and I will add, WORK HARD and dont get a baloney major like 18th century serf poetry or a balnket LAS (liberal arts and sciences) degree like law enforcement or communications. They will never pay you back enough to justify getting them.
I do solidworks and rhino modeling for New Balance. Absolutly love my job. I went to school for "Product Design and Development". Im looking to go back for Industrial Design. CAD can pay well, and its a very relaxed job most of the time. I work with rapid prototypers and all sorts of cool stuff. I don't make a bad living for being 22 either. You're on the right track.
