I posted this over in another forum in someones thread, but I figured its almost deserving of its own thread. If not, sorry, but anyways, just a rant I had...

I'm not calling this truk hack in any way, but when I went down to ITB i saw so much shit that made my gut turn I could believe it. Everyone and there dog thinks they can build a chassis or bodydrop a truck these days, and I think a big part of the problem is the guys saying "hell yeah, looks good" or "yeah man f*ck these haters, that shits killer" when they are talking out there ass cuz they really dont have a clue either. Its just a viscious cycle of idiocy promoting idiocy in my opinion, and thats why you can go to a show and see 3 very distinct types of vehicles..
TYPE 1:.the crazy one off clean shit thats built by the 'pros', These are the trucks that turn heads with the ingenious ideas, attention to detail and are perfect examples of form and function.
TYPE 2: the basic yet fully functional and decent setups done by the guys who wanted to do it themselves, but were smart enough to realize that they arent at the point yet where they can do a sick crazy setup so they are taking it a bit at a time and know eventually they will have the skills and experience necessary to build a TYPE 1 truck if they keep at it
TYPE 3: The hack junk built by guys too dumb to realize the mathematics, patience and fabrication skills that go into creating a 'type1" ride are not things that they possess. Instead, they decide to skip type 2 (learning a bit at a time so maybe there next vehicle will be sick as hell) and instead have the "if that guy can do it, I can do it" attitude and dive headfirst into a project they are nowhere near capable of completing properly. Any chance of them doubting there stupidity is muffled by others just like them on forums like this saying "yo man that shit is mad tight" and "damn dawg that is craziness...that blurry cellphone cam pic looks hella crazy" or "man dont listen to these guys, (who actually have a clue what they are doing and are probably trying to help) They just be hatin!"

I'm just trying to make a point to the guys that come on here and say "don't listen to those guys" or "are you an engineer" when we are just trying to help out. No one says you have to listen. But I'm not gonna be another dumbass sittin back and say "that shits dope, keep it up!" when I see something that could have been done to make the final product safer or more functional, i'm gonna say it.
I guess I'm just a hater to most people...

This should have been posted in the brawl room

I agree with most of you wrote but this will probably get out of hand.

I gotta agree. I've had friends who've done the Type 3 thing. They jumped into a build. Then someone who knew less than they did said it was cool, so they loved it and thought they had a bad ass ride. Yes this post will probaly generate negative response, but it's mostly true. The part I'll have to disagree with, is there are obiously some do it yourself people out there that can still build. And there are shops that do worse hack jobs than people in their driveways. Myself, personally, I know I can't build a sick ride. I don't have enough experience, even though I may have knowledge, and I definently don't have proper equipment. But these are just my 2 cents on it.

the worste thing or trend im seein nowadays, is the really scary work that is so popular lately.
look at the threads. "imbaggin my truck, lets see pics..so i can do it better"
or my suspension almost killed me.."
and so on..

you take a 3000# + vehicle, and do something to it that you have no idea, but it looks cool, is the wrong idea. people will get hurt.

You have a good point! I tend to tell people they are doing a good job to try and keep them motivated. I have only bagged and bd one truck. I like to think it is your type two, however a closer look might reveal a type three. I get frustrated with my truck all the time and when someone talks up my work I only want to make it better, and work longer hours on it. while I do clearly see your point, I also think we need to encourge the underskilled guys so they can learn from thier mistakes.

are you talking about a specific truck? you said "I'm not calling this truk hack in any way". i'd like to see the truck. i also agree with everything that you have said.

i'd rather pay more and have the pro's do it and know its done right and drivable and not a death trap cuz i don't have the skills place or time to do it myself...someday though i'm gonna teach myself and build something myself but won't let it be a type 3.

I've seen some pretty shaky stuff at shows. Some stuff just makes my stomach turn.

I'd probably call myself a Type 2 builder. I'm not a pro, but I hope to be someday.
