I can agree with you bro, I have the same attitude about people's rides that are built not bought. They are the true Minitruckers. Other people shove thier clean hands into daddys wallet and yes they end up in the mag. Mike and Chad photograph rides that are the best around because it's Minitruckin, not like half ass Sport Truck. Build somthing sick enough and you wont need to kiss the editors ass. The rides speak for themselves. There is no way to control who gets in the mag, based on how they aquired their truck. But you may be able to choose who gets into your club and you can also choose who you want to roll with. Those check writing bitches should have a place in the scene somewhere because if they have a nice truck we all want to see it. You see, these people end up weeding themselves out eventually and sell their trucks, Because they did it for a different reason: superficiallity.

man, thats weird that you say that. i never have even met or seen the minitruckin or sport truck staff and they always put in shots of the yota, maybe you should go to more shows, and on another note, i agree with what your saying about people building rides for them to get noticed in mags and shit. and if your not building a ride that is going to be cool enough to be shot in a mag, you might be waisting your time, i have a few average guy trucks and we all know that we dont want them to be average forever, but i think that sometimes they stay average to long and we start to feell like we are fighting an uphill battle against the rich fuuckers who can build anything they want, this may mkae us a little down and mke us feel like we can never win, but thats not the case. just build something sick that you like, and if it doesnt get in a magazine you did something wrong. becqause we have allseen some shitty features, i have seen plenty of trucks that i dont think should have been featured so damn, just build it how you want it and dont give a fuck about a magazine or who care about it. as long as you like it and it drags hard, fuck everything else.

thats why you go to shows is too look for and see the kind of rides you like.. i could give to shits about whats in any mag. if i dont like it i dont buy it. and when you get to the sponsor deal.. well alot of the guys had to throw all there blood sweat and tears in to one or two rides that really got alot of attintion for them to be able to have companies willing to give them a price deal on there parts or give them the parts to do it, but with that comes the deal some places require you to have a mag intrested in possibly featureing it and attending some good shows to help the advertize there stuff and get there name out there so more people will by there stuff. so of the best show trucks ive ever seen where full sponser $1 trucks.. and you know where they go at the end of the season never to be seen again.. the crusher. Its all how you market yourself. some move up the lader fast, soem takes them a while, and some will niver get ther and other like me dont realy give a crap if i do or dont, i know i will always find the kinds stuff i like in a show or mag, i just tumb threw the crap i dont like to get to what i wana see.. and for the rides.. once you build them you cant just keep the damn thing forever you gota move on sometime.. and some people shouldnt even be trying to build some of the crap i see out these day, i gess everyone thinks the can cut and weld shit with out knowled and skill, and when some of these buckets start falling apart and killing people the sport will really go down hill because the laws will start cranking down even more on modded rides..
In short,
Shit Happens..just try not to fall in it..

Alright I have read this for first time. I am agreeing with you chad. I have been in different types of "Lifestyles" if you will. All I hear from alot of potential customers is how much is this I would really like to have that. I give them an estimate, and they scramm. Its just not the shows that hurt or everybody wanting FREE stuff but its also the people that have skill and want to do the awesome work that people come up with but NOBODY wants to pay for it. If someone doesnt feel safe building what they want but still want to be in the scene. Should they just suck it up and not be in the scene or should they pay someone to build somthing that they would like to have? Plus it keeps businesses doing business and keep people having jobs. That is my rant I hope people can read it and understand it. If not SORRY!!

As Rev John said, "i gess everyone thinks the can cut and weld shit with out knowled and skill, and when some of these buckets start falling apart and killing people the sport will really go down hill because the laws will start cranking down even more on modded rides.."

The exact thing has happened in the "Bike" lifestyle. You've got all these guys that can weld and burn...all those that CAN'T weld, burn, etc. Now, guess what, the Gov. has stepped in. As of Jan 1, you can only own 1 custom built bike. If you BUILD a bike, you must keep it for a minimum of 5 years before selling it. Again, this WILL be the law on January 1st, 2006. How did this happen?? Because too many yahoos thought they could build bikes and the crap flooded the market, people got hurt, and now they punch em out like cookies and sell them to unsuspection wannabees. I'm probably considered an "old dude" in the Mini Truckin lifestyle at 39 years old. I did the "custom car" stuff years back. I built my 71 Nova Prostreet car for ME. As an example of "the standard" back then, I spent roughly 40 hours detailing and painting my valvecovers and aircleaner to match the paint and graphics I had put on the rest of the car. The car was SPOTLESS. Yes, I drove it, but I also cleaned it every friday night for cruising. I took it to a local Chevy show one time. I didn't place in the top 3, no big deal, I drove my car (to work every chance I got too!!). When I got my score sheet, I got 4 out of 10 on the engine compartment. I found the judge and asked him (politely) how he jugded it, since you could eat off the thing. He told me that "painted valvecovers and aircleaners aren't going to win you anything. If you want to win, go buy some chrome and put in there". So I said, "You mean I can spend 40+ hours detailing the paint, but if I went out and spent $50 on some generic chrome covers, that would score higher"? He said, "Yep". I have NEVER entered another show.
I had bent up Stainless steel hard lines on EVERYTHING including the radiator hoses (tubes), fuel and vacuum lines. EVERYTHING was painted/detailed/cleaned. But I LOVED that car. I drove it on the street and turned heads everywhere I went. I ran it at the Dragstrip, I LOVED that car. The PEOPLE loved my car. Thats what the lifestyle needs to get back to. Build what YOU want and screw the NORM!! See ya!

well said Donny. Im fairly new into the custom truck car scene, and a firm believer in built not bought if you have the skills to build a truck/car then by all means go ahead if you think you can but know you cant bring it to a shop. I have learned alot about customizing by helping my budies on their trucks and workin on my dawg. Yes it pisses me off when I see a Mommy and daddy truck/car all done up and the kid claming he did it himself/herself when he knows jack when you ask him what type paint he used or type of steel he used for the super clean body drop and he shakes his head saying "I dont know " But when its your own money and you bring it to a shop its alittle different because you saved up for the mod by mod build up and are not afraid of running primer for what seams eternity! YOur so right Donny seeing some cover trucks up close and personal is an Eye opener experiance they might have nice paint and interior but the reason they dont take the suspension pics is because it looks like a kindergarner welded the frame. I know I didnt build my truck but I helped in the design aspect and the biotch work like grinding and detailing my buddies Bodydropts10on20s and REEVES helped get it to were it is today.

i think this guys arguement is not people who pay to have thier rides worked on because lets face it no matter how hardcore you are in the scene not everyone can fabricate and do bodywork/paint. but i think its the people who get sponsored, don't pay a dime, get in a magazine and claim all the work. sponsored vehicles should NOT be allowed in the magazines and here's why. First of all I personally could not be proud of something i didn't at least have a hand in building and i SURE as hell couldn't be proud if i didnt' pay a dime on gettin it that way. Secondly if a truck is sponsored from the ground up then its no longer YOUR truck. its theirs they paid for it all you do is drive it even if the title has your name on it that truck is no longer your creation. companies like that get enough exposure from advertisements and car shows they don't need a truck in a magazine to convince me to buy from them. if a company sells a product i need then i'm gonna buy it regardless of if a featured truck uses it. And thats ONLY if i can't build it myself. But like i said if you wanna build a truck but don't have the skills there's NOTHING WRONG with paying someone to work on it for you. as long as you bust your ass to make the money to put into your ride then there's nothign wrong with calling that ride your creation. just make sure you give credit where its due. Another thing i see while we're on the subject is everyone yelling and screaming about BUILT NOT BOUGHT but if someone came up to you and offered you several thousand dollars to bag their ride or paint it because they know you can do it you wouldn't turn that shit away would you? no i didn't think so. i believe i've made my point. now i'll get back to work before i get fired.
