the original factory position is what im sure they mean. it varies on vehicles. Like the el caminos with the lights in the chrome bumper,im sure you wouldnt get introuble if you had one of those, because that was the original factory position for the tails.
If the ticket says taillights arent in factory position then you should be able to beat it. I doubt that is a real law anyway. Take pictures af a rollback or a truck like the one above with you to court and show that the lights arent in stock position.
They cant throw up that they arent DOT approved because that wasnt on the ticket. That would have to be another trial.
I got pulled over by a super trooper and instead of coming to the car with a hand on his gun....he had a tape measure!!!! Then told me my truck was too low.......i should have dropped it to the ground.....he probably would have shat himself
i dont know what state your in, but in cali if you dont have reflectors on sides and rear of your vehicle then its illegal, check your state laws. see if you can just put reflectors on the trucks back and sides so that you can get it writen off.
just get some of those magnettic traler lights and put em right were your stocks were, then go get signed off.
welcome to VA's state law hell. We cant' do any type of modifications or they will mess with you.
factory position or not, theyre not DOT approved so from now until you get rid of the truck you will probably get tickets for them.
hell i have a solution for you take a picture of every hot rod in town and take those to them and be like until you start hassling everyone doing modifications you can kiss my ass
michelobe, anything you cite for has to be an established law or the courts wouldnt recognize it as a ticket, because there would be no fine for the violation..
just a note, the DOT does not "approve" taillights. I laugh when I see eblah tails advertised as "DOT approved", there is no such thing.
The DOT sets safety mandates such as third brake lights after year 19XX and seatbelt type etc. The taillight heights, brightness, etc, are all state laws, just the same as tint regulations vary from state to state. I think a rearward facing reflector is a DOT mandate, not sure.
