removing overspray from truck

Last week at work some idiot was painting the barn roof next door when the wind was blowing right towards our parking lot and got oil based overspray all over my truck. I have got a few estimates on getting it removed. They said it will probably come off using laquer thinner or a clay bar. Will the laquer thinner hurt my paint? The front end has been repainted so I didn't know if it will hurt either the stock paint or the new paint. Any info would be appreciated.

If your front end was painted and sealed properly, then it shouldn't. Basically all they'll do is put some thinner on a rag and wipe off the overspray. Since there's only so much on the rag, it dries up before it can go through anything.

detailing clay... there are a few companies out there that make it.. Car Brite is what i use. its usually purple in color, that is agressive and it wont scratch your paint - stay away from laq thinner

i've never used the clay... thinner won't hurt your paint as long as it's been long enough that it's fully cured, like scott said, its just on for a minute. worst case is you might want to run a buffer over it to bring it back to full shine...

try the clay bar first, if not they sell this stuff called speed clay that is like a thicker glass cleaner and a rough sponge but it works.

I work in the detail area of a Mazda/BMW dealership. We use the clay bars for stuff like that. We also use thinner for certain things like removing glue from the new cars. Like said before go with the clay.

Id try some solvent based cleaner(wax and grease remover) first(Dupont's pre-sol is a good one) that should take it off and not hurt the paint at all other than u will need to wax it once it is all off.
