I thought the motor and resistor were with the heater core behind the radio. Am I wrong? Also, why couldn't a person fab a couple of high-watt resistors to make this work?

I got a lifetime warranty blower motor maybe 8 years back, under $35. Unlike the instructions in my manual, I did not need to remove the ECU computer from the firewall to replace this. Since I had replaced the AC evaporator a few years before, maybe I was more familiar with stuff down there. I think a 1/4 inch drive ratchet was handy.
$30 at Checker/Schucks/Kragen
However, they're higher for the resistor
$68 at AutoZone, lifetime
$39 for resistor
