ok ill try to explain my self.
i want to stock floor body drop my truck this winter. my question is can i do it using the stock frame. im thinking about taking a couple of inches of the top of the frame right nder the cab. then just plating it back up. and if needed add a 1/4" plate to the inside of the frame rails to reinforce it. then i would just lower the body mounts. so what do you guys think?
hope i explained my self ok. any input will be greatly apreciated.
possible yes. but will be more time consuming and probably weigh more versus building a new frame under the cab.
Your best bet is a new frame. I am sure its possible but I have seen one guy try what your talking about and it turned into a complete mess.
i'd have to agree. i'm sure it'd be a lot easier to just build a new one. i've seen it done, but the guy swore he'd never do it again, and never reccomend it. besides, it'd look better with a new one.
ok well i do want to keep it safe so i guess ill do a frame instead. now is 2x3 with a 3/16 wall strong enough.

Yep
absolutely. just make sure to have plenty of crossmembers so it stays stiff, and doesn't flex.
You can just cut the top of yoru frame out and the inside to turn it into an L and lay the 2x3 inside and weld it to the stock frame, and just fish plate it in the front and back where it meets the stock frame again.
yeah thats kinda what i meant minus the 2x3 in there. but i like your idea better. im just trying to save all the head room i can. and keep it as cheap as posible but still have it be safe to drive. thanx again fellas
