Chevy 2wd C10's used a bolt in stud in the front shocks up to 1987 or so. You can buy the studs at autoparts stores pretty cheap. You can weld the stud into a piece of 1 1/4in tubing then weld the tube to your notch. Works very well and the nuts don't come loose. As far as where to mount them, give them some angle because it will help the rear ride a little softer. If you mount them straight up and down you have a 1 to 1 ratio on the shock and it make the truck ride really stiff. Mounting them about mid travel works pretty good. Try to keep about the same angle as the stock ones, just mounted a little higher. Hope this helps. Here are some pics of my lower shock mounts useing the same method.
