laydoutb26 is exactly right. the thing that kills these compressors is heat. keep em cool and lubricated and they will run for a long time. keep a kill switch on pressure switch circuit so you can turn the compressor off manually if you get switch happy and it runs for a long time. some people have used temp probes to kill them after they get a little warm, but i havent done that personally

I too have useds a thermostat run in line as a safety, but it has never come on.....
Cool the incoming air and it makes a big difference.
