trying to buy this truck
need advice
what could cause lost of compression?
is that cheap to fix?also i know they all smoke but is that bad also?
need advice always wanted a mazda truck.
to bad its an ext. cab i like reg. cabs better but at this price i'll take.
well it sounds like he has no idea what he is doing. i would get a compression tester and check the compression. it may have good compression and have a carb problem instead.
i would talk to Mr. hoc and see what he has to say

ok thanks do you know how i can get in contact with mr. hock.
wait is mr. hock a member on this forum
?
R u at all mechanically inclined?1.with truck cold, unscrew the radiator cap and take a peak.If u see some brown-yellow stuff floating on top of the antifreeze, blown head gasket.2.Take the plugs out one at a time and inspect them.electrodes should be tannish white. If they are black or greasy there is where your head gasket is leaking.3.Pull the dipstick and look, smell the oil.If it looks whitish or smells like antifreeze instead of oil,may have bigger problems like cracked head.4.with truck still cold, run your finger around inside the exhaust pipe.If black and sooty ok all these trucks run rich.If black and greasy, truck is blowing oil past the valve stems and/or past the exhaust valves .If the truck look good otherwise(No rust thru, tires, etc.ok,)Prolly worth the 5 pesadas and then fix it.If everything else is worn out as well, might want to look further.I have a spare head, gaskets are cheap and so is tune up.Hope this helps.BJ
Man nice find. I would still say offer him $350. Just tell him that you did some research and there are more serious motor issues than he thinks. If the guy is taking it to a shop to be looked at odds are he doesn't know much about them. By sounding inteligent yourself he may realise that he could be sitting on it for a long time and want to move on it quickly and just agree to a lower price. As far as motor issues sounds like the MAN BJ got it all taken care of. I know I will be hitting him up this weekend possibly. Good luck with the purchase.
hey thanks for the info man i appreciate it. so your telling me nothing is wrong with the compression ?
so i just gotta check this things and if all is well it be an ok purchase?
No didn't say that.If u have a blown head gasket,a cracked head or bad valves ALL will cause low compression issues .I told u what to do to help u diagnose how serious ur problems are before sinking a lot of Money in the truck. If it is JUST a blown gasket, easy and cheap fix.If the head is cracked and has leaked antifreeze etc, down into the combustion chambers and into your crankcase you got a serious issue to deal with that will cost u out the wazoo. If the valves and seals are bad, just a middlin problem that some of us here can fix, others need help. One thing to remember, these are tough old trucks and can run for a long time with lots of little issues.Once they go,they go and everything has to be addressed at once.U gotta love em to own em cause they will break your heart and ur pocketbook all at the same time.If u dont believe me,ask some of these other turkeys on here.OK,kemo sabe?BJ
As always - good advice from hoc!
It kinda sounds like a cat? Also when they changed plugs they could be fouling out from the oil...probally oil seals. Another thing to do when looking at it with the guy is pull 1 plug wire at a time see if the motors lags more with one hole or the other......little trick to convince the seller that it has a dead hole and could cost allot to fix...when infact could be just bad plugs. If you do buy it when you get close to home drive that thing like you stole it....see if it will clean the cat out. I had to do that to my driver it was going threw allot of oil and the cat started to get plugged and would run like crap till i could blow it out....then i finally had to take it out.
BTW shut the truck off when pullimh each wire... it could hurt
