what sizes do kegs come in (in gallons)? also where can you find empties? anyone know? i have a few ideas for the 83.
nice.. keg would make nice air tank...
i dunno bout the gallons.. probably about 20-25.. when i lived in the states harris teeter was here we got our kegs .. just go into a big grocerystore and ask...it will be like 60 bucks for an emptty keg im pretty shure thats what the deposit is on one.. if they wont sell you an empty one you could always get a full one and have some buddies empty it for you.. im shure theres some volenteer around
yea i would get a pressure rating on that jewl before i went and put 200 psi in it
Interesting idea - pony keg for the air tank, regular keg for fuel!
15½ gallons for a "half barrel" or "regular keg", and 7.75 gallons for a "pony" or "quarter barrel" keg.
thats exactly what i was going to say, i know beer is pressurized under content but you need to be 100% that keg will hold that much air or you could be in for some serious trouble, shrapnel like a hand grenade.
as far as getting a keg, at our local beer distributor if you get a keg you give a $10 deposit insuring you will return it, so it would basically cost you the price of whatever beer you like plus $10 for the keg, keep in mind you also need to know what type of metal its made out of since most kegs have a big cork in the side from where they fill them and you will have to weld a patch over it
good luvk and lets see some pics in progress
i though of usin a keg for a gas tank a while back cause a friend of mine said she had a bunch in her basement. it would look sweet mounted in the bed with a dummy tap in it.
i think i just want one for the fuel. i don't know if i want another for air. but i haven't 100% committed to just that yet. who knows i may run 2 kegs. 1 for fuel and the other for air, but i will definitely get it pressure tested first. thanks for the help guys.
I dont think a keg would hold up to the pressures as an air tank. They will hold a little due to carbonation, but not much. Most kegs are aluminum and have a very thin wall. On my kegerator there is a warning on my CO2 system to not turn the regulator up past a certain pressure for risk of keg failure. I dont remember exactly what it is, but its not very high. Maybe 60 psi or someting like that.
Have one pressure tested and let us know what happens.
