i paid 70 bucks for a 4x8 sheet of 16 gauge and a 20 ft stick of 1x1 3/16 thick angle. i just about finished my cart tonight. it taught me a little bit about welding. i still have a ton of practice to do. i bought my bottle, it is a 60 cubic ft bottle filled and was like 180 bucks. i would recommend building your cart yourself, it teaches you a little. i also just bought a torch kit and now i have to get my bottles for it. i wanted to get a plasma cutter but you can do so much more with a torch and it is a lot cheaper.
$70! WOW! Thats cheap! I don't think prices are the same all over the US... I've done plenty of welding and fabbing. But making a cart myself, I have not done. But atleast I can weld, lol!
I was looke at a oxy/cetalyne kit too, too expensive for me right now... especially when its a little one and you can run out quick. The fill up is kinda pricey too...
I've got a little while before I start spending some more money, lol! Got a speedin' ticket for the first time...
Get that ticket in town or going down a mountain? lol That's what I always like about the truck, it keeps me out of trouble. I've gotten a ticket or warning with everything else I've owned. But not the B! Hope the ticket doesn't set you back to much Hexorz. And good job guys buyin the welders!
I got it 5 miles outside the Pullman turn-off. I was on my way back to Pullman for my job. It was the only cop I saw the whole time! He was smooshed in with a pack of cars and I did'nt see him until it was too late!
They have radar guns pointed at on-coming traffic now. So when you pass them speeding thinking that they won't notice, your wrong!
It was a days worth of work to pay off the ticket, and it its forced me to make my mom pay a couple bills till I get more money in the bank...
Hows that for set-back?!
I was gonig around a corner doing 73 in a 60... DAMN WEBER! lol...
Got my new welder today!! Got a Clarke 130 tested it out on some 3/16 and it gets great penetration with .030 fluxcore. Im stoked only thing is it set me back in the funds and I have to wait another couple weeks to order the rest of the stuff for my truck. Oh well that gives me time to brush up my technique!! Im pretty sure I have flash burn now cause I was welding in shorts!
sorry to bring up this old topic but will flux core welds work on notches and links???? Or do you need to do MIG welds. I'm about to purchase Lincoln Electric's Weld-Pak 3200HD in a couple weeks from home depot and I was wondering about the best way of welding on the notches and 4-link. This will be my first time truley welding.
flux core is used for deeper penetration on thicker metal, leaves slag that you must chip off, mig (with gas) is better for sheet and lays a nicer looking bead, not sure why some people insist on the use of gas with these smaller machines on thicker metal but USE flux core for 3/16 or thicker with these machines, if you want to weld with gas on the frame stuff I would get at least a 175 machine, but the flux weld looks pretty good after you clean it up, also bevel your edges for benter penetration
with a 110 welder, flux is the only way to go on big stuff man. if i would have known better i would have bought a 220 instead. if i were you i would spend a little more and get the 220. just my opinion though. they say that 220 makes an amature (spelling) look like a pro, so if that is the case and i have been learning on my 110, then i should be looking like picaso when i get a 220. hahaha.
thanks guys. I might go with this setup and use flux core. On the suggestion of 220 line I just found out that where I keep my truck has a 220 in the basement. Something I did not know before
tis an old thread, heck ya'll got the same welder i got....like they said 220's are better, but my promig140 will work for what I need...you can get an alum kit and a stainless kit for it, and will to 3/16 with fluxcore....if i need to weld anything thicker, I'll carry it to a shop.
