Okay, I was quoted $250 for the A/C parts at my local junker. Now, which parts should I be worried about breaking down? If I can help it, I would like to be able to restore them in some way...

i would get all the components except the compressor cus the compressors r known for leaking and you dont want to put all the stuff in and new freon and realize it leaks and have all the money for the freon down the drain. get all the other components and buy a new compressor, they cost more new but its worth not having to go through the trouble and spending the extra money. goodluck

Is'nt the condensor like a radiator? I assume everything will break down, but like you said, the compressor. Can I rebuild a compressor? How much do they go for?

i really have no idea but i also dont know if these trucks are r12 which i imagine they are. if they are then you have to convert to r134a cuz they dont make r12 anymore. but its pretty simple just change some o-rings and things like that and have some freon put in it. i wouldnt really know cuz i have cold a/c luckily the only vehicle i have ever owned with it, but i honestly dont ever use it cuz im so use to not having in it i always just roll the windows down. but goodluck

They still make R12 in Mexico and some still finds its way to US.Problem is that it is very expensive and cant be found just anywhere.I converted mine to 134 but it doesnt seem to cool as well.BJ

dropped90, lol, care to sell your a/c then? If you don't use it, might as well sell it to someone who would!

What the heck is r12 and 134a? I do have power steering... I got a coupon today from a local shop to do a/c service. $105 for it, and its weird how I get one when I have been thinking about it! Does that seem expensive?
