I am restoring a 53 GMC and the owner wants to use the original bedsides.  They are in decent condition, no rust holes, just a little surface rust.  My plan was to blast the panels with some 80 grit to get it as smooth as possible then hit it with this stuff.   after the converter dries it says it can be primered over just like it was bare metal with an etching primer.

i would just use epoxy primer over the outside.i wouldnt trust a rust convertor under a paint job, i would use some metal ready from por 15 to wash the rust off if its just surface rust.

the way i understood it from the eastwood tech guy was that it covers and seals the rust with a zinc coating and then u use an etching primer over that.  i will look into the por 15 stuff as well. thanks

i looked into the por 15 stuff and it works the same way that this tuff that i got from eastwood works so i should be good to go.

only thing about that zinc coating, is if you dont sand the piss out of it, you may run into delam problems down the road.  urethane and zinc dont like to hang out.
