Taking in progress frame to a show?

My main question is should I paint or not.  I'm currently working on a frame that will be a rolling chassis by the time the show comes around but there will be plenty more work going on with the frame after the show.  I will be taking it to layd' out at the park, which god only knows whether it will be raining or even snowing.

I don't really want to waste a bunch of money or time painting it, or worse yet painting it and finding out that the paint is a royal pain to remove.  Would I be ok just using a cheapo primer for the time being?

Any help or opinions are appreciated

just leave it bare, show the quality of the fabrication

yeah bare. unless you want to ruin the paint. just strip it all and let it shine

It's gonna suck if it rains, but I would leave it bare. Pretty sure the rain would diminish your primer anyways.

wd 40 is your friend.

James beat me to it. Water Displacement #40. I had a freind that kept wd40 on his rear fenders for about a year and it never rusted. It would have to be super clean before you tried to paint it though.

If there is that chance of rain, bring a tent along just in case, saves from having to remove small surface rust at the end of the day.  Yeah that WD40 is some good stuff, used it on my frame last summer.

I was thinking wd-40.  If I go that route what is the best way to remove it prior to paint?  any specific product you guys could recommend?  There is a slight chance I'll have the frame blasted once I'm done, but don't want to be locked into that just to remove wd-40

I would never use WD-40 on metal you plan to paint, it actually soaks into the metal and your paint will turn to shit in most cases. just leave it raw and if it rains its not a big deal, it doesnt rust that bad it happened to my truck. just get out the scotch brite and/or sandpaper or and orbital after she dries.

IMHO, leave it home until it's done.
