a 454 is impracticle for a small truck. its as heavy as the truck, it would do nothing but spin the tires. i'm just saying what little weight you will save just remove your inner fender like the others suggested. you dont have to get rediculous with the motor, even just a good 4.3 with some work done and the right gearing would be real fun to play with. not hatin, theres just more effective ways to spend money with greater results.

the big blocks arent too terribly much heavier than the small blocks are they?

its about the difference between a LT1 and LS1.

They aren't too much heavier and they provide so much more power and torque for littler money than what you would spend with a small block.

You can get the same performance out of a small block as you can with a big block and save a little weight too. Go down to the junk yard and pick up a 350 and drop it in that S-10, it'll be hard enough to keep those tires planted without a good rear suspension. Later down the road you can stroke it and have some real fun.

you also have to consider room issues under the hood, exhaust, etc. a big block is about 200 pounds heavier. than you have to consider if your gonna put a th400 behind it, thats a good bit more weight also. yeah its a best, but they are getting way harder to find these days and are more expensive to build than a small block.
