yep....backing plate is wet. Still gotta pull the axles, right? Which means I have to pull the rear cover to remove the c clips to get the axles out..Right? or does the dana hd70 have c clips?
if its a full floater.. then no.. just unbolt all the bolts on the axle and remove the axle
all info i have read on it says it is a full floater. Would the seals need to be replaced still?

there's a lot of info here , you need to dig a bit to find the dana stuff though
did some more research...looks as if the hub is seperate from the drum. Meaning the axles do not have to be removed to get the drum off. Just have to unbolt the wheels, pull them off, then pry the drum off. If that is not right, somebody please correct me. Also from my understanding you could have a load on this rear end and pull the axle shafts out without hurting anything...the housing itself actually totes the load, not the axle shafts as on a 1/2 ton.
youre correct , there might be a ridge at the outside end of the drum that will stick on the brakeshoes , if that happens you need to look at the backingplate , theres a plugged servicehole in there somewhere where you can stik in a screwdriver and unwind a small sprocket that holds the brakeshoes out .
hope its understandable enough (i'm not englisch as you prolly allready found out )
Got another question......the backing plate is wet from axle tube down, but the drum on the outside(if you had tires and wheels off)is also wet. You guys still think wheel cylinder? Like i said i check the rear axle fluid and it is right at the bottom of check plug.

If you had to add brake fluid to the res. then more than likely it is a brake cylinder. The front bowl is the back brakes. If yours is a full floater, definetely lift that side of the axle up as high as you can, even if you drain and change the fluid, it will drip out of the end and make a mess.
