Got new tires put on the rear today and tire guy pointed out that the axle seal was leaking. went and looked at it and sure enough the front of the drum around the axle was wet. Can anybody tell me what all is involved? and what all is needed as far as parts go....i know i will need axle seals and brake shoes...

when I do the rear seals, I cheat by raising the side i am working on (axle) higher by about 10 inches to keep the rear end fluid from running out.
you will need a long/large pry bar to use as a lever when re-installing the axle shafts.
seal puller,new gasket and sealer

i think its probably better just to change out the fluid. by the way you sure its not a leaking brake slave cylinder?

Now you got me wondering.....cause the rear axle fluid is full right at the bottom of plug hole and i had to add brake fluid to the small front bowl yesterday.........Should be very noticeable when I pull the drum??

You will see the backing plate "wet", now its time to replace the wheel cylinders and shoes
