My opinion on the subject is that i will invest in a wishbone or a 4-link. If you have a V-8 or a beafy motor i wouldnt even consider a 2-link.

lack of lift with a 2 link?
I don't get the point of getting all that lift out of the back. Your back wheels don't turn side to side so why would it even need that much lift. Plus it just looks stupid if the front won't get equally as high. As far as a 2-link there just easy to install. Don't have to relocate anything, and the newer fullsize chevys you don't have to cut the bed to make it lay out unless your going 22's or bigger.

i did'nt build it for lift, that's just kinda how it happened. i'm not bodydropped, so there's like 8,000 s10's at every show i go to that are, so i like the look to be different.

dammit, beat me to it, lol. so that means his tailgate only gets 5.75" off the ground? that's LOW!!
2 links are popular because they work. If you want to "hit sides" then a four link is better, if you dont, a 2 link is cheaper, allows you to fit more stuff under your bed and actually transfers power to the ground better. It is, like everyone said already, a matter of preference. But to answer the question, they work, and are plain and simple.

If 2 links transfer power to the ground better you'd think they'd use them since they're the most powerful, fastest accelerating cars on the planet....
