ok if there is a strict window tint law in your city/state that may have been the probable cause for a stop. cops do observe everyone and can follow till you do something wrong OR MABY someone called to there office/dispatch and reported your vehicle as suspisious or doing something wrong. THIS may not be the truth but just people being assholes... here you can deny a search. you saying yes waves the need for a search warrent. in saying NO he can always request for a search warrent but would need to be cleared with his sargents and plus he would need the approval from a magistrate (judge)my

Or they can say they smell pot, or call a k9 and say it alerted. they can say someone called and said they had a gun there are may ways for them not to have a warent! but if you dont have anything let them most the time they just want to see if you say ok.

call of a gun would more than likely be a felony stop and a lot more man power than 2 sheriffs. they wouldnt even asked jason anything they would have ordered him to turn off veh. throw keys out, get out of veh. back to the veh. down on the ground, quick search and cuff and stuff. get the picture....i am sure majority of agencies have mobile video thats rolling when a stop accours, if not a camera then a body mic recording everything. if the police is that crocked that they make shit up then yes he needs to complain. remeber its your LEGAL right to say no to a search.

Can a police officer search my car when I am stopped ? Generally, no. However, due to the mobility of cars, time does not permit a search warrant to be obtained. As a result, vigilant police are motivated to search suspicious automobiles. However, the police officer must have probable cause to believe that contraband is concealed somewhere.
In essence, merely being stopped for speeding should not allow the officer to search your car; however, if the officer saw you throw an empty beer can out the window, that may be sufficient probable cause to search your car. Or, if the officer smells marijuana as he approaches the car, he may have an articulable suspicion to search.
It is unreasonable to make a search of an automobile when the arrest is for a minor traffic violation (like speeding), as a subterfuge for a search for evidence of a serious crime. Yet, the many automobile exceptions are based on the lower expectation to the right of privacy in a car versus a home and the fact that cars are mobile and evidence can be more readily disposed. Reasonable suspicion Facts or circumstances which would lead a reasonable person to suspect that a crime has been, is being, or will be committed
At this stage, police may detain the suspect for a brief period and perform a frisk. In some cases, drug-sniffing dogs may be called to the scene, although officers must cite a reason for suspecting the presence of drug evidence in particular. Refusing a search does not create reasonable suspicion, although acting nervous and answering questions inconsistently can. For this reason, it is best not to answer questions if you have to lie in order to do so. Police authority increases if they catch you in a lie, but not if you refuse to answer questions. As a general rule, reasonable suspicion applies to situation in which police have reason to believe you

they cant do anything if you say no to the search... and if they did find anything when you said yes it would be thrown out for no "reasonable suspession" to pull you over...

he cant follow you for that long then pull you i for get the miles but i want to say its 5 miles.also its your right to not concent to a search of your vehicle.even if he finds drugs and guns the case must be dismissed in court unless he says a smelled an odor or a seen it(called the plain view law).tips if you even get pulled roll all windows up except for driver leave it cracked just enough to hand your reg. and DL this eliminates him saying hell smelled an odor(alot of cops always come up to your car and start leaning close to smell inside). If you are asked to get out wind up all windows and lock all doors so he has to ask to search and then you can say i dont consent(you must say so or he will think you said yes).no matter what he says to you to try to scare you be polite and keep asking are you free to go if he has no cause then he must let you leave.

I cant believe i just wasted 25 minutes reading all this shit ...
If you want to know whats legal....go to the library...and look in the state laws..
Because every state has different laws for motor vehicles..
Luckily i work at a shop where i service Highway Patrol cars so i ask them to take a peek at my car and tell me if there is anything that could get me pulled over.
Half the shit in here is bs...
A cop can follow you for as long as necessary there is no set limit for following .. All a cop would have to say is that he was going that way...and you did something that caught his attention right before he pulled you over.
