What you have to watch out for is driveshaft plunge. The further the driveshaft is out of line with your 4-link i.c. the worse the plunge will be. If it is spot on you can have 36" with only 1" of plunge. Your 30" long bars can net you 24" of travel without too much trouble. Try to keep your upper bars as long as the lower for the best long travel performance.

I.C. placement is what determines the primary function of the system. If you figure the i.c. some where around the grille, it will offer a very neutral system. The closer the i.c. to the rearend the more severe the dynamic effects will be. And with that the further away it gets the less effective it will be.

Hey max, first off it was awsome to meet you at reso.

now is it possible to have the IC too far from the rear end. when i set up my links the second time i measured the IC and it was past the front of the truck

The further the i.c. is from the rear end, the less dynamic effect the suspensions has on the chassis. I wouldn't worry about it. as long as it doesn't end up behind the truck at half travel, you will be okay.

There was a thread a few weeks ago that went into that really well. You can go to AirRideTalk.com and check out Matt's stuff. He has some really good info on there and some diagrams too.

so on parallel 4link there is an infinite ic correct?

Exactly. And because it is so long it has no dynamic effect on the chassis. That is the only real down fall of the parallel link design. It doesn't hurt anything, but it doesn't help either.
