The gas crunch gave birth to minitrucking- all those stoners in the 70s couldn't afford to drive their vans (no offense to stoners OR gas guzzling vans!), so they went out and bought Datsuns, Yotas, and Luvs!I have a couple of Truckin' mags from the 70s, and you should see some of the crap they threw on those minis! There was actually a tech article on making and installing your own custom wood bumpers!! I'll have to scan that one and post it up for y'all!

Sportruck.com has a club directory with a club called Texas Minis- according to their tag line, they've been active since 1987... anyone got a minitruck club older than that?

i think th efirst minitrucks were getting customized in the early 80s biut it wasnt until the lowriders and bugs died out that minitruckin started to get more popular i belive lowrider magazine actually stopped printing in 84 cus of no one being interested and the came back in 88 with minitrucks on the covers and showing tech articles on z racks and such as time went by minitruckin mag came along and the lowriders started to become popular again and lowrider started going back to traditional lowriding impalas bombs etc

PHIL, PHIL, PHIL... I AINT THAT OLD? MY SISTER(OLDER THAN ME) WAS IN A MINI TRUCK CLUB CALLED "RAINBOW TRUCKERS" (TRY THAT IN TODAYS SOCIETY) (FAG/DYKE/HOMO} IN THE MID 70's I DONT WANT TO TAKE CREDIT FOR NOTHING, BUT I CAME FROM THE VW's INTO MINITRUCKS SO IN 81 I PUT SOME HUGE 15X6 (NOT 14's) PORSHE ALLOYS ON MY 620 LOWERED FRONT AND REAR AND WENT TO A RUN, EVERYONE LOOKED AT IT LIKE IT WAS AN ALIEN CAUSE I SORTA TUCKED AND DIDNT HAVE FENDER FLAIRS AND A VISOR. SO I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN "ONE OF" THE FIRST TO SEMI TUCK. CHECK OUT THIS LINK I FOUND AND YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN!http://public.fotki.com/Lordmodelbuilder/mini_truckin/
