i would definatly invest in a spot weld cutter. just center punch the hole(long as you have the one thats got the spring loaded line up pin) and drill all the spot welds out, it keeps you from drilling into the panel u dont want to remove. just when uput the new panel on, just weld up the lil holes like anyother hole...

I plan on buying a spot weld cutter, I'm just not sure which one works better.

OR

Theres probably 80 spot welds on each roof so I need something that will last at least that long.

when i was working at a bodyshop we used a small drillbit and then one a little bigger than the whole spotweld. u drilled all the way with the pilot bit than u could tell where to quit with the big bit. but where are the spot welds for the roof skin at and i will ask this oldschool guy on how to do that..

The spot welds are in the dip rail, and across the front of the windshield molding.

Actually, I had a friend look at it that works in a body shop, and he says hes unsure if he can save it. Its a lot worse than it looks in the picture. I also had my dads friend come out who owns a local bodyshop, and has been doing this for about 20 years, and he said the roof was gone. He said some of the waves could be shrunk a bit, but not enough to keep the body filler thin. I don't want my roof to crack later on, so I figure I'll do it right the first time.

I'll get the second one Tim. I'm going to see if anyone locally has them so I don't have to order one.

Yeah, you want the second one for sure. Changing the roof shkin will should be no problem for you. It just sucks you cant get a new part for it any more.

It would be nice to get an new roof. Lol. I aksed a body shop and they said they can get them, but they're not worth it because they cost so much. I'll just murder a cab at the junk yard. They get crushed anyways.

2 thoughts for you:

1- big ass rag top!

2- cut the roof off the donor across the pillars and weld it onto your truck, rather than dealing with all those spot welds!

(plus, while you're at it, you could weld the new roof on a little lower... like 2"!)
