well, you are saving 100gal x 11 = 1100 x .85 = 935 gallons of fossil fuel.

If your concern is cheap transportation, you are correct that E85 will only save marginal amounts of cash.

But with the focus on reduced dependency on oil, you are saving 85% of the oil you would normally use. If they could find an agent to make E100 lethal that would still burn easily, you wouldnt even need the 15% gasoline of E85.

Again, you need to look at the big picture. Gasoline was very expensive when introduced, and refinements in distribution and refining have allowed essentially the same product to be a relative bargain by todays standards. Any truly viable REPLACEMENT energy source will achieve the same efficiency. The fact that E85 has undercut gasoline costs at all is an amazing development, but it has been discussed (and I agree) that E85 is not the replacement source but rather a weaning device for the interim until the true replacement is developed.

Everybody says buy a smaller car/truck with better gas mileage. Yea that helps, but not enough. With gas prices climbing everyday it will cost you too much to drive a car that gets 60mpg.

Its costing me about the same if not more to drive my 30mpg ranger today than it cost for my to drive my 9mpg nova when I first put it on the road 6 years ago.

Im starting to believe armageddon isnt going to have a thing to do with satan, the goverment is going to put us in a living hell. People are stealing gas more and more everyday...I dont mean pumping and drive off, I mean stealing it from people's cars. Crime is going to keep going up and going up. Frankly I dont blaim anybody, how can you afford anything when it takes half your paycheck for gas to get to work?

You know it is truly funny to see people complaining about gas even more funny that the fact is that water cost more than gas?? and people don't complain about that 16oz water $1.00 X 4 = $4.00 a gallon or even milk which around $3.00 or another good one a nice cup of joe from your local starbucks i mean come on lets be real they are not gonna lower the costs of gas just because everyone is not going to mobile or exxon

thats just stupid! i dont buy bottles water for $4 a gollon i use the water that comes out of my tap which cost pennys for gallons, i dont drink coffee and i sure as hell dont use 4 or 5 gallons of fuckin milk a day to get to work and back. thats like saying thank god our cars dont run on expensive perfume cause that shits 80 bucks an once. get real theres no reason for gas to be 3 or 4 times more over a 2 year span then it was for decades. that would be like a cheese burger thats been 99 cents for 20 years at some fast food place and instead of the price of that cheese burger going up gradually over a few years it jumps up to 4 bucks in a years time for the same crusty cheese burger. the main differnce here is, if that happend we could simply choose not to buy that cheese burger but with gas we cant just stop buying it and continue to live a normal life

again, no it wont. Demand falls, prices go UP, not down, production goes DOWN not up. Its all about the revenue. Take an econ class sometime, dont take my word for it.

The problem we have here in the US is that the majority of the oil that comes from here can't be refined into gasoline...so we depend on foreign oil to get our gasoline and almost all of the oil that does produce gasoline comes from the middle-east....that's why our government is so involved in affairs over there..because we would all be fucked if some crazy fucker used a big nuclear weapon over there...
