On March 1, 2006, I gave birth to a beautiful 7 lb 5 oz baby boy. However there were complications and because his heart rate started to drop and he had to be delivered be emergency C-section. I had no idea until I woke up two hours later that he was whisked away to the Neonatal Intensive Care where he was immediately put on a ventilator. The reason for this is because he had his first bowel movement while still in utero, called meconium. This substance is thick, almost like tar. He inhaled it and it got into his lungs causing them not to work properly. The doctors said it was all they can do here so only 8 hours after his birth he was transported by EMS to a hospital nearly two hours away in Columbia. Doctors have had to use their last resort and put him on an ECMO machine. Because his lungs cannot make the oxygen it needs, this machine takes the blood from his body, oxygenizes it, then pumps it back into his body. This is a highly-invasive procedure and poses different risks, one being brain bleeds. Please pray for mine and Jason's (Shavdrangr) little man as he is very critical. I carried this little guy for 9 months and have only seen him for about 20 minutes and haven't even gotten a chance to hold him. I will keep you all updated as soon as I can. I have just been discharged from the hospital today and am on my way to see this precious little boy. Thank you for your prayers and support.
