the only numbers i can find on the thing were right above the water pump it says (4790 GM 50L)
see if you cant find a stamp just forward of the passenger side cylinder head
if the block has been decked then it may not have it anymore or it may not be readable anymore
i found a site that might be able to help you out it is a general guide for most of GM's codes. Engine Guide
i couldnt find anything on the number you posted earlier
There should be a number on the back of the block, behind the driver side head on a flange where the bell housing bolts up. You should be able to pull that code and try one of the websites out there to find out what it is.

looking at what you posted, the GM 5.0l is a 305 engine. The 5.7l is the standard 350. the olds and buick small blocks varied slightly vs the chevy counter parts but not in displacement. you have a 305 olds motor, which is the same size as a chevy 305, but the valve covers are different and dipsticks are different. I think the h.p rating on the olds 305 is around 160h.p., the Chevy versions of the 305 ranged from 150h.p. to 190h.p.
