I'll chime in on this one .... me I grew up being into classics, although as time has changed classics has become a broader range of vehicles than when I was 15 (31 now)... now i dont even go to truck shows and could are less bout going but do go to hotrod & classics shows.
Im getting close to finishing my truck...the minute its finished its sold or traded for something stock that will sell quick so i can start the next build and its not gonna be a mini.
Truck scene isnt what it was back in the early to mid 90's on up until like 2000 then it just started a downhill spiral for m kinda ....
I'll get hated on for this but really get tired of going to shows and listening to punk bullshitters that usually dont know dick but spew garbage out thier mouth constantly.Ive never came across anyone at a rod show like that in prolly 20 years or going to rod shows...not once... always cool down to earth people that dont feel the need to be compulsive liars to get attention or try to act like something thier not, or toot thier own horn cause no one else will....blah,blah,blah...
And dont think its that much of a trend cept for maybe here in the truck community people moving to old metal now .... why? cause 95% of the old guys building shit for years you would never know what they got and they dont run around braggin bout it or runnin thier traps just to get attention or hoping to impress someone like most minitruckers do .....they do thier thing and dont give a fuck bout no one else and what they are doing or if they can maybe impress someone by having diarea of the mouth non-stop with 85% BS.... usually low key people and usually more of them around than people realize & alot of badass cars people have or built but had no clue about it ....so na dont think its purely a trend ...people are just now opening thier eyes more then the media has latched onto it more cause they have now discovered it also which has forced more people to realize hot rod guys arent just backyard hillbilly rednecks always
Hell people made fun of me for a long time for going to redneck rod shows as they thought ....now oh its the coolest.... wasnt but like 4-5 years ago people made fun of me cause i said after my truck I wanted to build a old wagon maybe and do it up my style, till bout 3 years ago when that started becoming more of the trend & more popped up in show coverage and shows and now its the shit.
Personally I grew up around that and being into that , got hooked into minitruckin when i turned 16 ...but always still loved classic metal and always will.

well, i personally started going to traditional rod shows back in 94' (before it was the "in thing" to do), back before i ever heard of truck shows. My personal reason for going with a mini was start up cost, and availability. Anyone can pull a mini for 2 or 3k and or a fullsize chevy for a decent price if you look a little bit, but it takes alot of digging and knowing people to find a decent 30's coupe/sedan. It takes knowing people, knowing what your looking for, and what's a reasonable price to get started on old iron.
Ask almost any "new guy" working on old iron nowadays, alot of them are either converted mini guys, or ex-bug guys. Not because they didn't like rods before and changed thier mind, but because it was easier to start up on those things. If your a car guy, you appreciate it all. If you repeat over and over you didn't make your money back on what you built, then you did it for the wrong reasons, try the stock market next time, i heard it's easier there.
I think all true car guys are like me, they want, ALL OF THEM!!! lol. I want my mini done, and a 59' caddy, and a 34' model A sedan, and a lifted 04' f250, and a 64 1/2 mustang, and a 59 impala, and a 60's dodge logging truck, i mean hell the list goes on and on. My wish list is way out there, and i will make my way around the bend at some point. But it won't be because of boyd/foose, or commercials, or feature trends, or sema, it will be because that's what i want. Fuck everyone else.

like others have said this is a hobby and you throw money AWAY on hobbys......
i started out with a minitruck an have moved toward the classics with my caddy but it will be ok at a truck show or a classic/rod show,,,,,,,
the reason i went that route is im getting older and have kids and want to involve them in shows and truck shows no are not like they used to be
also like others have said the drama isnt there wih the older crowd

WOW.... Matt and Terry great points. Matt, you sound angry. I did not put this post out there to make anyone mad. I can see ALL your points made and I AGREE with you for the most part. Terry, I agree with you too. It is every guys dream to own all the vehicles he can. Though, if you dont have the bank roll some guys do, you can sell your classic a little easier than a mini, and move on.

Na Mark not really agry but I can see how it comes off like that lol ... Im just totally burnt out on minitrucks and about 75% of people surrounding it.Im know there are good guys left in this sport but they are far and few between unlike the years ago. I think its the newer generation that have gotten involved. No more is it all about just a bunch of guys building trucks that are an extension of thier being....which is basically how Ive always been on everything.
Now its "hey i need to pal up with this dude cause i can get anything i need done by him on the cheap or fre if he is a firend" or "Im gonna ride the coattails of these guys so maybe i can be in the higher level with them, just have to sell myself out"...
then now every dusche opens a shop and screws up peoples rides..... people will sell themselves out for anything that will benifit them...... people run thier mouths nonstop either negativity towards others to make themselves feel a lil better and then others do it just to try and make people think they are soemthing thier not. The younger guys (for the most part) think destroying shit at a show and hotel makes them cool..... then the stupidity draggin cause they think if i cant take my tme and build something for me, I'll build a deathtrap just for draggin cause its faster & cheaper and then I'll get my attention whore fix that way...... it goes on and on
for the things I personally think is wrong with the sport now ..... some of it is from Im 31 now and have grown up alot more but i also know the other part is things in this sport have basically been summed up by things mentioned above cause thats in a nutshell every single person Ive met i nthis sport in the last 5 years or more. With the exception of just a few that i can count on one hand and still have a few fingers left even (sad in my opinion).
Personally I avoid at all cost letting anyone know anything I d cause Im so sick of every person I meet all of a sudden wanting to make me thier new best friend in order to just in-act thier plan later of "hey i can get something outta this dude if i make him my friend" ... cause like i said in his sport everybody is wanting something out of your ass just to get them a lil farther.
Just like me & a friend of mine, we are both guys that like to keep quiet bout our stuff and what we do, and always laugh bout how playin stupid and acting like your a dumbass that doesnt own nothing or know how to build anything at all is the key to staying sane..... cuase same shit happens to him also.
Yet when someone came to check out one of his projects for sale yesterday to buy it....immediately they were like "oh shit, you got all this stuff and can do all this, and no one knows about it"....lol
Anyways Ive wrote enough of a novel ad sucks none of its positive ....so i will end on a good note on something I's like to say..... Mark Ive followed your build on the truck on here and have got to say I love it and youve done a beautiful job on it and I give much props to the quality wok and level build youve done.Clean through and through and immaculate.Beautful work man and extremely impressed!
Sorry to anyone Ive offended on this topic and for not keeping it evactly on topic & i just call it like i see it and sometimes can be a jerk as well....but couldnt help calling it bascially "it is what it is"

like matt said above the bigggest problem is show destruction.....
either of the show grounds or of peoples ridesit seems like over the years its gotten worseeven to the point where people are getting hurt and ladys getting raped....wtf dose that say for this hobby.....and people wonder why shows go away??????
showfest for exampleand endless summer and spring splash on the west coast also are afew

It seems like the emphasis has moved towards classic restoration and customization. Why do you think that is? I like my 63 C10 because of the "clean lines" the way the cab leans forward, and it is all metal. I think there is more of a return on the money for the classics too. I built a 2002 GMC 1500 and obviously never got close to what I had into it when I sold it. What are your thoughts????????
any pics of the all metal, id like to see it, its usually not done so its cool to see em in that state.
