yea, i had my truck built for me cuz at the time i was 16, but have since kept the same look, but redone everything on it myself. that being said its no cover truck, but we just recently bought Hank G's bodied avy. and my lil bro has caught 10 kinds of hell for it. at scrapin this weekend everyone that came up to us & kept calling it hanks truck. we are not at all ashamed of buying a really well known ride, but to esacpe the never ending bull shiz we r gonna repaint it and BAD is makin us a set of one-off 24's. and then maybe everyone will start calling it "Ryans" avy. What does it matter if someone admires another persons idea enough to buy there ride?? its kinda like if it aint yours, u dont hafta drive it ya kno? and besides you couldnt build half the truck for what we paid for it! TO EACH HIS OWN!!!!!

you truck was clean as hell. was parked beside the avy at stc right? tht avy is dope, and been around for a while. its time for a change. snapper did a sick paint job on it though.

Ahh..built not bought...the new minitrucker war cry. Over the last few years, it's become more and more acceptable to build a cobbled together, hacked up pile of death and drag it into a burning pile of embers on the side of an interstate...all in the name of "Built not Bought". Most of the people out there "building" trucks have no business doing so. I hear stuff like 'It's his first ride", "He's still learning", "Yeah, it's fucked but at least he didn't pay a shop to do it" pretty regularly. Building a truck yourself has become an excuse for tacking in a reverse 4-link, boogering in a notch and putting the biggest bag you can find right on top of your pumkin and calling it a minitruck.

Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with new kids in the scene learning, but there is a pretty steep learning curve associated with things like suspension engineering and vehicle dynamics, and the typical 17 year old with a Harobor Frieght 80 amp buzz box doesn't have the knowledge or ability to build something safe. But the "built not bought" crowd will cheer him on no matter what. I would much rather see sombody spend their hard earned cash on a bunch of bolt on stuff, or drop it off at a shop, then to have them learn on something that will probably fall apart on the freeway, next to my wife and kids in the passing lane. I build shit...it's part of what I do. If someone doesnt have the time or the ability to make their truck a reality, I'm more than happy to do it, and put out a safe, reliable product. The time the spend working overtime, doing odd jobs and missing time with their families to pay for quality work is just as valuable as my time behind the welder. The simple fact is that if there werent shops to build the sick ass rides that grace the covers of Minitruckin, and help move this sport forward, we'd all probably still be rocking 4" blocks and air shocks..

Sorry...didn't mean to vent..lol.

Usually the people talking shit about built not bought have complete shit-wagons that need to be sent the the scrap yard. Come to Slamfest and see what im talking about. If you don't have the know how or resources to build something clean and safe,a vehicle is not the place to learn.

Wanna hate on someone, hate on the spoiled ass kids whos mommy or daddy bought 'em a finished truck at 16. They didnt build it, or earn the cash to have it built or buy it done so they have no respect for it & run it into the ground in less than a year.

yea, well that not always the case bud. my lil bro and i have some dope shit, BUT!, it never gets mentioned that he and i work 5-6 days every week at our mom and dad's Dairy Queen. we flip burgers, clean bathrooms, take out trash,, u name it,,, just so we can do this sh!t. and maybe the spoiled brat who doesnt work whos parents buy him whatever he wants probably would treat his ride like a whore, but i kno we sure as hell dont.

Ive had fixed up cars and trucks since i was 13 years old, my parents helped me out alot,i got a finished truck from a member of RA when i was 17, and what? I dare somebody to run their mouth and by the way yeah i just bought a finished 300C, NOT built by me but built by and owned by Bill from Ekstensive. It shouldnt matter who built the vehicles, quit worrying about who built somebody elses ride and simply enjoy the fact that theres another truck or car added to the family.

Just start off by. Built not bought is stupid. Now lets move from there

Shops are there for a reason. They, for the most part, have had extensive experience building vehicles. So you pay for the knowledge to have a truck built correctly. Bob Grant is a master at metal work. I don't see anyone talking shit to the owners of the rides he builds. Max at Bio, Cary at IF, Bill at Ekstensive, list goes on and on of shops that do sic work. That comes from years of experience. Most people that give grief dont have a ride that compares to any of the shops listed. So it seems like that phrase is more out of jealousy. But what it boils down to. It's your truck. Do what you want. Because unless you condensed the sand for the glass, made your tires, made the steel, created the paint, designed and manufactured all the parts for the vehicle.. you bought it.

I agree........100%

I can tell you that I will prob just buy a mostly done truck next time. After 6 yrs and all money I put into my currant truck. Its just cheaper to buy a mostly finished truck that someone eles has put a ton of money and time in and want out of it for some reason. I love the fact that I can say I built my truck but hate saying I put 30k into something that is worth 10k on a good day. When I could have bought a 30k truck for 10k and repainted it and had 15k in a truck and 15k in my pocket
