Who gives a shit if its built by your hands or not? I dont! If you own it & you spent your money on it, you bought it. Wanna hate on someone, hate on the spoiled ass kids whos mommy or daddy bought 'em a finished truck at 16. They didnt build it, or earn the cash to have it built or buy it done so they have no respect for it & run it into the ground in less than a year.
built- you did the work yourself or had someone do it for you,
bought- You handed someone 10K for a finished covertruck and say you did it all... fuck that.
but whichever you have, treat the minitruckin society right, dont trash shows or ruin the minitruckin scene for everyone, and STOP the DRAMA!

There are 2 store boughts in my club & they're not ashamed to say they didnt build it either. The 1 is soon to be featured which never would've happened if it weren't bought cause the builder never took it outta the damn garage!
well, I, and a few others from what I have read on here, think that if you buy a stock truck and either do the work your self (obvious) or you take it to a professional shop with your own ideas and have them professionally built it for you, then that is built not bought. Bought to me is when you go out and buy a finished show vehicle and claim it's yours. You take it to shows and accept the trophies for it. I would love to be able to weld but unfortunately I can't right now.
Alright I got a good one for ya. So go to a show last saturday. This 16yr old kid rolls in with this newer s10. with a built not bought sticker in the back window and parks right next to my yota. It has a brand new plate and in PA when you get new plate now you get a paper plate to put in window 2 and it had it. Kid didn't even look old enough to drive. So I go over and check out the work on this truck backhalf. It is 2 linked with lowering blocks between the linkbars and axles then his panhard bar is only held on the axle with about 2 1/2 threads of the nut tightened I was able to see 3 or more threads from the front side of the nut. So I told the kid that his setup was not safe for the road. He flips out and says I bought it from someone that had it professionally done by a shop. Now I have been in this scene since I was 17 I am 30 now think I know what works and what is junk thou I still learn new shit everyweek. Just tried to help this kid out before he losses his rear axle going down the highway hitting the switches.
Someone else said it once and I will have to repeat it because I completely agreed. The whole built not bought thing is part of what kills this sport. Guys spend 40 to 50 grand building these rides then have to sell them for a huge loss because people get so much crap for having a "bought" ride. There was probably some of this debate in the 50's with the hot rods when some guys were building them and some were buying them. Now those guys have gotten smart and can appreciate that it cost 50,000 to build a hot rod and will pay accordingly. I have never heard any of those guys give other guys sh** because they "bought" their ride. I bought my ride bagged in primer. Once I have redone the bag set up and I have it painted I will consider it a built..then bought..then built ride. It really doesn't matter to me though. I just like going to shows, hanging out with everyone, and having a great time. I'm off the soap box now so whoever is next can have it now
I believe the true fabricators and craftsman out there who do "build" their own rides take a lot of pride in that fact. Thats great. More prop's to them. Now some of them will hate on people who can't or don't "build" customs themselves. I don't agree with that mentality or hating on anyone for any reason. I'd rather see a guy who has never welded before go and pay someone to do it right than be riding next to him on the road with some turd welds holding his vehicle together. Oh, yes this is where someone steps in and says, "he should just learn to weld correctly", well not everyone wants or has the means to be a welder. Guys who Build keep building, guys who buy services and parts, keep buying. To each his own, if someone gives you shit about it, fuk em. Damn haters.

The whole built vs bought think is retarded. Who cares if you take pride in it that is all that matters. If you bought it done, half done, or paid someone to do it just give them some recognition. Also if you wanna be real technical then no trucks are built, they are all bought. Unless you can make bags, valves, airline, sheet metal in you garage then you BOUGHT all that stuff. so the saying should be changed to like I Installed not They Installed.....lol that is how stupid that Built Not Bought saying is.

i dont think it matters except when pride is involved a guy with pride who built his own ride will go fist to cuffs with someone who has "paid" for there truck and wants to talk smack..lol
pride isnt even an issue IMO. you should take pride in ANYTHING that has your name on it. Be it a truck you bought, the work you do, the truck you built, or the house you own. It doesn't matter because pride to the upmost level should be their reguardless. That's just me though.
