OK not all of us have the know how or the accesibility to tools tpo do our own work. Does having someone else do work for us make us fallinto the bought category. Basicslly i want to know what the community classifies as bought and built minis.Like if you conceptualize as truck but dont lay a hand on it until u get the keys back does that fall into the bought catergory. Not tryijng to start shit just trying to get a better grasp of the two.
It doesn't matter if its built or bought. I have seen equally badass trucks come from both sources. If you know how to do the work and do it RIGHT, by all means build it yourself. If you don't know how to do the work right, ask someone to help you or take it to someone who does. There is no shame in letting someone else do work that you can't do safely yourself. I don't care if a truck is built or bought, as long as it is built safely and built right.
If you come up with the ideas for stuff, and have a shop put mind to metal for you I would consider it built. It wasn't built by you, but they were your ideas, your truck, you didn't just go buy someone else's.
I think it's better to be done that way, and have it built safe by people who know what they are doing, instead of trying to do it yourself if you don't have the knowledge/skills.
The whole built vs bought mentality of minitruckin' is stupid anyway.
i dont think it matters except when pride is involved a guy with pride who built his own ride will go fist to cuffs with someone who has "paid" for there truck and wants to talk smack..lol
If you don't get your hands dirty and do most all the work then I say it falls under the Bought Category.
If you don't know how to do it then help the person that is doing it for you. At least this way maybe some body will respect you when it is all said and done!

no that is just being smart buying a finished ride falls into the bought category, paying someones falls into the built because you pay for what you want. just make sure you check out the shops work well before you take your ride there. look at cars/trucks they are working on now and talk to people who's ride has been done awhile. if you cant safely do the work it is alot better to take it some where that has the right tools and knowledge to do what you want.

If I knew how to use a welder, I would probably do small stuff myself like shave handles and notches etc. But I work 40+ hours a week in 110-115 degrees and cant weld so I took my truck to shop to get built right with my ideas and my hard earned cash. I consider it built
Now previous owner of my girls truck says she "bought it not built it" because it is already abgged and bodydropped with a shaved tailgate... But its already gone from shitty bodywork and dings to straight and baby pink, and the interior and bedfloor being re-done. So I consider hers someone else un-finished project picked up cuz 2 main things were done, bags n bodydrop, which are the norm anyways nothing original to me in bags and bd. and the rest will be her own. Also done by her working alot, and having it done right by pro's.
I helped with a few things down the road cleaning the frame for paint etc helped with original bag job made the fillers to shave my handles etc.
I was there most the whole build of my truck. I know how suspension works how things are done and should be done correctly but cant physically do it myself.
I'd rather say my truck is safe than - I BUILT IT MYSELF FUCK YOU BLAH BLAH
if you buy a halfway (or less) built ride then finish it , then i guess you're both. or is that a gray area?
?
Just start off by. Built not bought is stupid. Now lets move from there
Shops are there for a reason. They, for the most part, have had extensive experience building vehicles. So you pay for the knowledge to have a truck built correctly. Bob Grant is a master at metal work. I don't see anyone talking shit to the owners of the rides he builds. Max at Bio, Cary at IF, Bill at Ekstensive, list goes on and on of shops that do sic work. That comes from years of experience. Most people that give grief dont have a ride that compares to any of the shops listed. So it seems like that phrase is more out of jealousy. But what it boils down to. It's your truck. Do what you want. Because unless you condensed the sand for the glass, made your tires, made the steel, created the paint, designed and manufactured all the parts for the vehicle.. you bought it.

here's a tag on my girlfriends truck in my profile by previous owner/"builder"
bought not built... oh and complaining too. NICE!!
complained because the bed was unsafe...oh well. life goes on.
And I hear 50/50 on my truck being built or bought and it pisses me off cuz I bought it at 16 STOCK...and it's one of the trucks you mentioned built by Autocore, even though you left them out lol.
